JR & Lawler Talk About Their Wrestling Futures

The Poughkeepsie Journal spoke with both Jerry “The King” Lawler and Jim Ross on their futures in wrestling. Check out the highlights:

Jerry Lawler on if he will ever wrestle on a full-time basis following his heart attack: “I don’t wrestle on a full-time schedule anymore, but I still enjoy getting back in there. It’s exercise and it’s fun. I’ve enjoyed doing this my entire career. If I can do it once or twice a week, it’s cool for me. It’s just getting back on the horse again. I don’t worry about it. I don’t sit around and wonder if it’s going to be the same thing that‘s going to happen to me again. I don’t think anything different about it.”

Lawler on the day of his heart attack: “It wasn’t your typical heart attack where you have clogged arteries or something. It was a sudden cardiac arrest where your heart seizes up and stops beating. My heart didn’t beat for about 20 minutes. Once it started, I had the good care where they kept the blood flow going to the rest of my body. In other heart attacks, you sometimes have damage to the rest of your heart, but in my case, there was no damage to my heart at all.”

Jim Ross on leaving WWE and pursuing other opportunities: “I’ll be doing just normal type stuff now. After going on the road for a few years, and I loved it, I lived my dream and that’s the greatest thing in the world. But I’m short of the 40-year mark in the business and it made sense to slow down a bit. I’m healthy and there’s other things I’d like to try. It’s a good time to be JR. I’m really happy with the way things worked out.”
