— Colt Cabana will team with Australian comedian Brendon Burns for live stand-up from August 2-25 at the Stand in Edinburgh.
The ad reads: “The world’s number eight cult comedian. We could declare it an unforgettable evening, but let’s face it, this is really only going to appeal to a very select few of you. If you like wrestling and/or either one of these guys, you probably can’t believe this is happening! …If not? You honestly might want to go elsewhere. Adults only! Special guest comics and wrestlers! Bring your own matches!”
— A press release was released for I Mean! Productions’ “Breaking Kayfabe”, a new play written by Temar Underwood that will take place at FringeNYC, The New York International Fringe Festival. It is a production of The Present Company on August 9th through the 25th. Tickets run from $15-18. You can get more details here.
Here’s a synopsis: “The Suicide Bomber” Barry Dorchester was one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, but after the Nassau Coliseum Incident, his career was over. After years of silence, he sits down with Dan, a pro-wrestling podcast host, to finally tell all. As his story unfolds, the dark and colorful characters from his past come to life in this multi-media docudrama with live in-ring action.”
This is Underwood’s fourth production after The Lady Drug Dealer and The Heist (FringeNYC 2011), The Brokenhearteds (Wings Theater 2009) and The Ghost of Henderson Manor (Vampire Cowboys Saloon Series 2010-2011).
Underwood said: “Professional wrestling is performance art. These are artists that suffer, truly suffer, for their craft and I want to share their stories with the theatre audience.”
The cast includes stage, film and TV actors like Adam Swiderski (Blast Radius; Willy Nilly, FringeNYC 2011), Luke Guldan* (Gossip Girl; The Changing Room, T Schreiber Studios ), Aldous Davidson (The Dark Knight Rises; The Guy Code, MTV), Brian Silliman (The Particulars, FringeNYC 2012; Advance Man), Brett Davenport (Odysseus DOA, Theatre Row ), and Dale Thomas Krupla (Jesus Christ Superstar, National Tour).
The creative team includes Daniel Winters, Lighting Design (Drama Desk Award nomination for The Man Who Laughs ); G. Warren Stiles, Set and Props Design and Maha McCain, Costume Design.
