Thanks to Ranjit Chahal for his help with some of the following newsbits:
— This week’s SmackDown in Detroit, Michigan had huge implications for the city. WWE was evaluating every aspect of the show, including how it drew to give them an idea about holding major pay-per-views there. We know the city is in the running for WrestleMania 33 and there has been talk about other “big four” pay-per-view events as well. However, there were concerns with this week’s taping going up against a sold out Detroit Tigers home game (featuring star pitcher Justin Verlander and the Red Wings playing a 2013 NHL Playoff game in Anaheim. As if that’s not enough competition, we’re told there was also a sold out concert at a downtown venue.
— It’s been noted by many that the matches on this week’s RAW were longer than they normally would be on Monday Nights. This was due to the lack of workers and ‘promo guys’. This is also one of the reasons why they had a match involving Zeb Colter, Ricardo Rodriguez and Big E Langston, the tug-of-war and the dance off. In other words, it was pretty much filler content with nothing more than throwaway value.
— Davey Richards has confirmed that he is under contract with Ring of Honor until September 2013. He’s said to be ‘very happy’ being employed there but WWE is obviously an opportunity he would be interested in. Thus, any reports indicating that Richards has signed a contract with WWE or any other organization for that matter are unfounded.
