As noted earlier here on the website, Sheamus spoke with WWE.com recently about adding the Texas Cloverleaf submission hold to his repertoire after his Brogue Kick was “banned” by Booker T. Here are some additional highlights:
On changing his moveset: “No matter what, you have to keep evolving. I’ve always believed that. I’ve always tried to keep adding to my move set, and the one thing I’ve never fully utilized is a submission hold.”
On using the Texas Cloverleaf: “Dean [Malenko] was one of the greatest submission experts ever, and as history has seen, he’s made hundreds and hundreds of Superstars tap out [to the Cloverleaf]. It’s one of the most agonizing and painful submission holds, and it’s also one of the most effective. Plus, being Irish, the Cloverleaf fits me well.”
On the hold fitting into his repertoire well: “I’m a brawler, and most of my moves impact the backs of my opponents. The Cloverleaf definitely capitalizes on a weaker back, especially when you lock it in and sit back on it.”
On his submission hold vs. Alberto Del Rio’s: “Del Rio’s Cross Armbreaker submission is highly effective – it just recently made Randy Orton tap out.
