— WWE Studios has acquired the US distribution rights to The Day. WWE Studios president Michael Luisi said that the company would use its TV, digital/social media and print assets to promote the film.
The film, directed by Douglas Aarniokoski, is described as a post apocalyptic thriller. It follows five survivors wandering along the back roads, trying to survive. Food and ammunition is dwindling and their attempt at seeking shelter leads them into a battleground where they must make a final stand. The film takes place over a nightmarish 24 hours. Shawn Ashmore, Ashley Bell, Michael Eklund, Cory Hardrict, Dominic Monaghan and Shannyn Sossamon are starring in the film.
This is one of the first films for the company that is not being created in-house and instead is simply being distributed by the studio, which is said to be one of the changes made since the company’s shake-up.
