Jack Perry AEW Absence Update & Dropped Plans for Kenny Omega Feud
Jack Perry has been noticeably absent since this past January’s NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty event and from AEW programming since this past November’s Full Gear 2024 event.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that the reason for Perry’s abscense is currently not known based on his sources. Sapp reported that he has not heard of it being anything related to an injury.
Sapp reported that AEW officials’ original plans for Kenny Omega’s in-ring return were for him to feud with Perry but those plans were eventually dropped.
Jay White Broken Hand Injury Update – White’s Injury Affected AEW’s Dynasty & Other Creative Plans
As noted before, Jay White was pulled from this year’s Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament due to an injury believed to be a hand injury. During Saturday’s AEW Collision show, White confirmed that he had suffered a broken hand injury and will be out of action for the foreseeable future.
Fightful Select reported that their sources confirmed that AEW officials’ original plans were for White to face off against Will Ospreay in a First Round match for the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament at their Dynasty 2025 event.
It was reported that those spoken to also stated that White’s injury ended up affecting AEW officials’ original plans for this past Wednesday’s Dynamite including Kevin Knight replacing White for the official reveal of the tournament bracket and match at Dynasty.
It was also reported that Knight has been woven into the creative plans that was originally meant for White due to White’s injury situation.
In regards to who was originally planned to win the match between Ospreay and White at Dynasty, it was reported that it has remained tightly under wraps within AEW. It was also reported that there have been ongoing discussions and suggestions from both talent and creative regarding the direction for this year’s tournament.
It was also reported that AEW officials are currently concerned that White may ultimately require to undergo surgery which could impact his return timeline even further than AEW is hoping.
Mariah May AEW Contract Status Update
As noted before, “The Glamour” Mariah May’s contract with AEW is currently believed to potentially be expiring this summer.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported in a recent Q&A article that his sources stated that May is currently not listed on WWE’s internal “incoming” list, which is a key indicator of talent expected to sign with the company.
Those spoken to reportedly stated that the current belief is that WWE would like to bring her into the company when the opportunity arises. It was reported that there were some individuals who may have opposed signing her in the past, those people are no longer in positions of influence meaning any roadblocks to a potential deal have been removed.
Those spoken to within AEW reportedly stated that theu believe AEW CEO Tony Khan may have included an option to extend her contract but details regarding this potential option year clause are currently unknown. Those spoken to reportedly also stated that AEW officials wants to keep May on their roster.
