Andy Quildan Comments on RevPro Has Seen Increase in RevPro OnDemand Subs Since Mercedes Mone Title Win
New Japan Pro Wrestling and AEW’s co-promoted Wrestle Dynasty event lats Sunday in Tokyo, Japan featured Mercedes Mone defeating Mina Shirakawa to become the new RevPro Undisputed Women’s Champion and retain her NJPW Strong Women’s Championship.
Cultaholic held a recent interview with Revolution Pro Wrestling Andy Quildan. One of the topics discussed included Quildan revealing that subscriptions for their RevPro On Demand service have gone up since Mone’s title victory.
“The reality of the situation is that Mercedes wants to be a difference maker. She looks at something like Revolution Pro Wrestling and what we’re achieving against all odds and wants to be a part of that, and wants to help elevate that. There’s two sides in a partnership. For us, we’ve got this opportunity to work with a globally recognised talent who is hopefully going to bring more eyeballs on to our product. We’re already seeing it, our social media numbers have gone up substantially since Mercedes MonĂ© has won that championship belt. Our OnDemand subscribers have gone up, believe it or not, and I guess this is just her fans wanting to check out the product, so we’re already starting to see that, the first step to being noticed is being mentioned. The words ‘RevPro’ are on a lot more wrestling fans’ lips, be it positive, be it negative. I stand by the fact that you watch a Revolution Pro Wrestling show you will become a fan of Revolution Professional Wrestling. So that is absolutely perfect, it’s a match made in heaven for us.”
Quildan also gave his thoughts about RevPro currently working with Mone to bring her over for shows in the United Kingdom.
“We’re working on it. We are working diligently with Mercedes’ people to kind of ensure there are championship defences within the United Kingdom. We can look at this in many ways. We spoke about partnerships with other wrestling promotions, we can look at this as a partnership with Mercedes MonĂ©. That’s a logical way to kind of look at this thing. We’re working together.”
Update on Chris Charlton NJPW Suspension Over Anti-AEW Comments Incident at Wrestle Dynasty
As noted before, NJPW English commentator Chris Charlton was recently suspended by New Japan Pro Wrestling following him being involved in a controversial incident at last Sunday’s Wrestle Dynasty event over controversial anti-AEW comments he made during the Kenny Omega vs. Gabe Kidd match.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that Bushiroad CEO and NJPW owner Takaai Kidani was the person who made the decision to suspend Charlton and not NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi or anyone else in NJPW. Meltzer reported that those within NJPW had supported Kidani’s decision.
Meltzer reported that those spoken to within NJPW stated that AEW had played no role in the decision by Kidani. Those within AEW reportedly had mixed reactions with some negative over the suspension punishment while others were supportive due to their issues with an announcer creating his own storyline angle and “parroting the negative perception viewpoints” of AEW and done without anyone’s consent. Meltzer reported that many of those spoken to stated that Chalrton came across as “one of those anti-AEW and anti-Tony Khan podcasters” over his comments. Meltzer also reported that Charlton’s comments did not fit with the booking of the show since neither NJPW nor AEW were doing a New Japan vs. AEW storyline feud for it.
