As noted before, former ESPN Senior VP of Production Lee Fitting was hired by WWE as their new Head of Media and Production this past January following his firing from ESPN in August of 2023. Fitting’s firing was recently revealed to have been due to the allegations of him committing misconduct, including making sexually suggestive comments and objectifying comments, within the company for years towards female employees.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources within WWE denied recent rumors and reports about Fitting currently dealing with backstage heat within the company over the allegations from his time in ESPN.
This rumor originated from a recent report by the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer who stated that his sources had told him that WWE officials removed Fitting from the show ending credits on the December 23rd episode of WWE RAW. Meltzer had reported that Fitting’s removal was due to the fallout from Fitting’s misconduct allegations being made public recently.
Johnson reported that Meltzer’s report was very flawed for the fact that Fitting’s name was never listed to begin with for any credits for RAW shows in order for a removal to even be possible. Johnson also reported that another issue with Meltzer’s report was WWE’s RAW shows never had any show ending credits to begin with either and just the usual WWE copyright graphic.
Johnson also reported that Fitting’s name has been listed at the end of WWE’s SmackDown and NXT’s shows in recent weeks with the most recent being the end of Tuesday’s NXT show.
In regards to potential backstage heat against Fitting, Johnson reported that those spoken to stated that there has been no known fallout against Fitting within WWE as of Tuesday. Johnson also reported that WWE officials were aware of Fitting’s situation at ESPN at the time of his hiring to the company.
