As noted before, The Lucha Brothers’ Rey Fenix’s contract had been originally set to expire this past September. AEW recently added almost a full year’s worth of injury time to Fenix’s contract and currently have no plans to release him. Fenix recently claimed on social media that he received “inhumane treatment” in AEW.
Fenix provided an update earlier today on Twitter claiming that he needed a doctor and AEW had ignored him for months.

The Pancakes and Powerslams podcast’s Dr. Chris Featherstone reported on Twitter that a source within AEW spoken to on November 20th stated that the alleged excuse that AEW CEO Tony Khan found out about the Lucha Brothers being in talks with WWE is “fake news” and the real reason will be revealed soon. Featherstone reported that there is a “real story” behind Fenix’s situation and was described to be a “huge injustice.” This same source reportedly also stated that the Lucha Bros are currently expected to go more in-depth about their time in AEW when they are free and clear to do so and “when they do, it is going to be ugly.”
I received information from an AEW source on November 20 regarding the Lucha Brothers' status, but did not report it as I was waiting for one of them to begin speaking their mind about the situation (I was told that was coming).

Fenix responded to Featherstone’s report stating that what was stated was accurate and confirmed that he currently can not speak about it due to contractual issues but he will be able to do so in the future.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that he had asked AEW officials for comments and was informed that they are opting to not comment at this time nor comment on Fenix’s medical claims.
