Tony Khan Comments on AEW’s Working Relationship with CMLL

WGN Radio held a recent interview with AEW CEO Tony Khan. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts about his praise of AEW’s current working relationship with CMLL.

“It’s definitely going to continue. Coming up Wednesday here in Chicago, it will be the AEW debut in Chicago for Mistico. First time we brought Mistico here to Chicago with AEW, and that’s huge, because he’s one of the greatest Lucha Libre stars of all time, and to have Mistico and Mascara Dorada, two of the top stars from CMLL, coming here this week, it’s a big deal on Wednesday night. We’ll again have fans coming from all around Chicago, all over Illinois, and all the surrounding areas to see AEW, and I know a lot of people are going to be excited to see Mistico and Mascara Dorada here. CMLL have been great partners for us, and we’ve been sending our stars to Mexico also, and it’s been great for them. It’s been a partnership that’s been really beneficial to both sides.”

In a recent interview with the AEW Close Up with Renee Paquette show, Powerhouse Hobbs gave his thoughts about if he holds any resentment towards Jon Moxley over his knee injury this past April and time away from AEW. Hobbs stated “Respectfully, I’ll deal with that when the time comes.

In a recent interview with the Straight Talk Wrestling podcast, TNA talent Steve Maclin gave his thoughts about his wife Deonna Purrazzo’s career in AEW and if it was difficult not working with Purrazzo anymore due to them currently working for different companies. Maclin stated “It is and it isn’t. It’s fun to see the hunger back in her right now because she got to such a high point in TNA, or IMPACT at the time, where she was a multi-time world champion, tag team champion of the Knockouts, and now she’s gotta go reinvent herself in a way to a new audience at AEW. That to me is awesome to see because she’s hungry again. She’s never lost her hunger, but she’s got a little bit more oomph behind what she’s doing, she’s got a little bit more of a spark, and she’s hungry for that spot, and that’s what she’s fighting for, and I enjoy to watch that because that’s how our house is. We want to be the best at what we do.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In recent interview with Fightful’s Overbooked’s Coexisting podcast, indies wrestler and former ROH talent Cheeseburger gave his thoughts about his interest in a potential backstage producer job in AEW in the future. Cheeseburger stated “Yeah, absolutely. I’ve done a little bit of producing work, but when we would do some of the old Future of Honor stuff for Ring of Honor, I would produce those. I would help put matches together, help agent some matches. I do pretty much all of the booking and producing work at the dojo for our YouTube show and getting some practice with that and putting together matches with students. There was a show, I don’t know if you guys have seen it, but it was on Amazon Prime, ‘Dojo Pro’, I was a producer on that as well. That show, that had a lot of great guys [in it], like [Wheeler] Yuta was in it, Ricky Starks, MJF, Aaron Solo, [Joey] Janela. So I ended up being a producer on that as well, and that was a really fun experience, getting to do that and be a part of that. That was always something that I could see myself doing in the future, maybe not right now as an active talent, but yeah, I would be interested in that, for sure.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with WGN Radio 720, Ricochet gave his thoughts about his main goals for his career in AEW. Ricochet stated “What I want to accomplish is just continue to build the resume for Ricochet, continue to give the people you know something fun to watch. Obviously, I came to AEW, I want to be champion. I wanted to be the International Champion. That didn’t happen… yet, but it will. I want to win the Continental Classic. I want to be the AEW Champion. I want to be the Tag Team Champion. Obviously, those are goals that I think every wrestler needs to have. But for me, again, I’ve been doing it so long that now, I want to tell good stories. I want to give people a good product. I want to create art that will last and that people will talk about, really at the end of the day, that’s my main goal, to create art. Art that will last a lifetime, and whether that’s a specific moment with a move, whether that’s a match, whether that’s a story, whether that’s a promo, whatever it is, I just want to continue to make art that will last.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, Ricky Starks gave his thoughts about the online rumor from this past Summer about him getting into legal trouble in Canada following his 2023 Owen Hart Memorial Cup Tournament victory. Starks stated “I’ve never strayed away from working hard, and I will be damned if I have anyone put that into question. That is insane. I have worked tremendously hard, tirelessly hard, since 2020 in AEW, and even before AEW I worked hard. Even at NWA. There is no one at NWA that would tell you I was a lazy worker. Ask Nick Aldis. Ask Billy Corgan. Ask Eddie Kingston. Ask LA Knight. You’ll never find it. It’s unheard of. If anyone ever says that I’m difficult to deal with or that I’m lazy or that I’m an alcoholic and got arrested [laughs]. It’s all lies. It didn’t happen, but I will say that I sound like a total badass. I beat up a cop and got arrested, and was able to wrestle the following year. There’s been a few crazy stories, and they all come from a place of trying to tear me down. There are people in the industry, and people outside of the industry too, that are, so to speak, just pussies.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
