AEW: Darby Allin on Being “Ready To Be The Face Of AEW”, AEW’s Guns N’ Roses ‘November Rain’ Full Gear Music Video Debut Set for 11/16 Collision Show, More News

Darby Allin Comments on “Darby Allin: I’m Ready To Be The Face Of AEW, All The Crazy Stuff I Do Makes Me Stronger Mentally”

JAMZ96.3 held a recent interview with Darby Allin. One of the topics discussed included Allin’s thoughts about him feeling ready to step up and become the face of AEW following Bryan Danielson’s full-time wrestling career retirement.

“I really feel like I’m ready for that spot. I say this all the time, but all the crazy stuff I do outside of the ring is not just for laughs and giggles. It actually makes me mentally stronger. Breaking down those barriers. If I can survive this stunt, then why can’t I be the face of a company? If I can survive Everest, why can’t I be the face of a company? It’s just getting stronger mentally. I firmly believe when you risk your life on a monthly basis, it’s going to make you pretty strong mentally and I feel like I’m ready to be the face of this whole company.”

AEW News & Notes

In a recent episode of the Grilling JR podcast, co-host Jim Ross gave his thoughts about Powerhouse Hobbs’ recent return from injury to AEW. Ross stated “Yeah, he’s a very good talent. I’ve been a supporter of Powerhouse Hobbs since he really started evolving and he’s another guy that’s just coming back from an injury, he’s healthy, he looks great, strong as the ox, so I’m glad that he’s back on television. It’ll help the TV and it will help Hobs obviously to get more TV exposure, that’s the key thing. Guys should not keep track or how many wins or how many losses they have, they should focus on the match quality that they’re in. So, maximize your TV minutes is a good way of looking at that deal. Yeah, Hobbs is a star. He’s going to be — I’m anxious to see where he ends up at the end of his run somewhere down the road, he’s a young guy so he’s still got plenty of time left. I’m a big fan of his and a proponent of his work, I think he can do — he has the ability to be much more significant in the big picture than not. He’s really talented. That was a good signing by Tony Khan. Willie has made sure that this games evolves, he’s is a student of the game, he’s a wrestling fan and that always helps. I’m pulling for him too, it’s amazing how many great young talents that this roster has right now.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with the Battleground Podcast, Costco Guy AJ gave his thoughts about his interest in potentially wrestling in more matches in AEW following his upcoming match against QT Marshall at AEW’s Full Gear 2024 event. AJ stated “I think there’s gonna be more [laughs]. Things have to line up and hey, the audience has to want more. Let’s start with that. What I do promise you is I’m bringing the booms that the audience is going to want more. I will be bringing the boom, I will have this audience wanting more and then we’ll start from there. You know what, if the audience wants more, I absolutely love the way AEW has handled everything to this point. It would be an honor do more matches with AEW. We are very busy with the other stuff we’re doing with social media, so everything has to line up, but the door is definitely open.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with Uproxx Sports, Mercedes Mone gave her thoughts about her interest in competing for the AEW Women’s World Championship and having a potential match against current champion “The Glamour” Mariah May for the title. Mone stated “I am super proud to watch from afar. She came in as a super fan, just loving wrestling, loved it so much that she moved from England to Japan, trained out in Stardom just to hone her craft, and now she’s here. She is our women’s world champion, beating Toni Storm in one of the best storylines in women’s history. So to see her rise this fast and to see how good she is in the ring, it’s so incredible. Like I said, we have the best women’s division in the game right now. I’m definitely looking at the title that she has around her waist.

In a recent interview with the Talk Is Jericho podcast, Private Party’s Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy gave their thoughts about when they first learned they were going to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Quen stated “We were promised stuff early and I was like, ‘I’ll believe it when I see it.’ I think it was the day of when it hit me. We came in, ‘Can you sign this, sign this. You got new t-shirts, but you can’t wear this until after the match.’ That’s when I was like, ‘Okay, it’s going down.” Kassidy responded stating “We got told this the week after (WrestleDream) we were going to win the belts. I don’t believe it because anything can change. We had the six-man and then I cut a promo against the Bucks saying if we lose, we split up. I said, ‘I’m not going to believe it until I cut that promo and see the graphic.’ I cut the promo and was like, ‘We can’t go back now.’ I see the graphic, ‘If Private Party loses, they split up.’ Okay, now I believe it. That’s when I call my mom and said, ‘Hey, take off of work. I’m going to fly you guys out.’ I told her a lie. ‘This is going to be our last match.’ I didn’t tell her we were going to win the championships because I wanted her to be surprised. ‘This is our last match. I want you to be there to witness it because you witnessed all of our career.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with the Casual Conversations with The Classic podcast, Aubrey Edwards gave her thoughts about AEW’s growth over the years and how she feels like the company is family. Edwards stated “It’s incredible to see all of the things that we as a company have been through. Knowing that we were in Jacksonville for a year and a half during the pandemic, and that feels like a lifetime ago, but at the time, we didn’t know when we were leaving. It’s a very different AEW then than it is now. There’s definitely different periods of time that we see AEW go through, like when we were doing Darks in Orlando, before Rampage, before Collision. There’s so much growth that just has happened, that has effected our lives, where we are every work, where we’re traveling to, all those sort of things. So just seeing the different format that AEW has taken, especially knowing our next television deal, we’re going to be streaming. That’s an entirely different audience. Streaming simultaneously as we’re on cable, so we get to keep our current audience and grow, be in front of different eyeballs than we have been previously. Seeing that growth has been really cool because I remember the day when we got our first television deal. We were in Miami, and it was insane. Shad Khan was walking around, congratulating everybody. But that’s sort of the feeling of AEW. I feel like that’s a big part that hasn’t gone away, is that sort of feel of camaraderie, and it’s always cliche to say it, but that feeling of family.” Edwards continued stating “Seeing the different roster that has come in, I was really fortunate when I came in, I was on the indies, so I knew a good chunk of the people because I’d worked with them before. Now, I’m seeing people come in who have been my heroes, people I have idolized. I remember once flying to Brooklyn to see Mercedes Mone wrestle because of what she meant to women’s wrestling. Now having worked with her multiple times in officiating title matches is just insane. Bryan Danielson has been my favorite wrestler since I started watching wrestling, and being a part of all of these amazing moments, sitting by the stage at Wembley and seeing him win a title, tears streaming down my eyes, it’s insane that all of these things have happened, that we’ve grown to this point that we are a real competitor to a company that’s been around 40-plus years, and what it’s done for the business. Having different companies allows you to negotiate, it gives people more opportunities for jobs, it gives people more opportunities for growth. Competition is always good for everyone because you’re always trying to bring your A game. It’s just been fantastic to see us grow and change over time, and we still have that very scrappy attitude. There’s a number of people that wear multiple hats backstage, and they still do to this day, and they have since day one. But we’ve been able to bring in a lot of different people. I think we finally have over 100 full-time staff at AEW in different roles and whatnot. It’s crazy. It’s incredible.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
