MVP Comments on Process That Led to The Hurt Syndicate Reforming & Group’s Arrival in AEW
A recent episode of the AEW Up Close with Renee Paquette show featured The Hurt Syndicate’s MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Bobby Lashley as the guests. One of the topics discussed included MVP’s thoughts about the process that led to The Hurt Syndicate reforming as a group and their arrival in AEW.
“Unfortunately, it was ended long before anyone was ready for it to end. We felt that we wanted to give our story the proper ending that it deserved. Tony Khan was kind enough to allow us to bring our conglomerate here.”
Bobby Lashley responded giving his thoughts about the origin of the “Hurt Business” name dating back to his boxing days and the support from fans about wanting to see the group together again in wrestling.
“The fans wanted us back. Any time I posted something, at least one comment would say Hurt Business, Hurt Business, Hurt Business. They always wanted to see us get back together because it was something that was real. We hung out together, we work out together…this is the perfect opportunity to do it again.”

As noted before, AEW will be holding next year’s co-promoted Forbidden Door event with New Japan Pro Wrestling in London, England. Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported in a recent Q&A article that his sources stated that AEW officials currently have plans for next year’s Forbidden Door event to take place at The O2 Arena in London.
In a recent interview with the AEW Up Close with Renee Paquette show, Shelton Benjamin gave his thoughts about him joining AEW and his belief that he finally has the opportunity in his wrestling career to show everyone what he can do. Benjamin stated “I definitely feel like I’ve been suppressed. I’ve been in the business for a little bit. I’ve done a few things. I definitely felt like here in AEW I’ve had the opportunity to show fans who I really am, what I really can do, and not me doing what I had to do for the people I worked with previously. I love that I can be me here at AEW.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with the Battleground Podcast, Mercedes Mone gave her thoughts about her having an awesome time in AEW since joining the company and working with AEW CEO Tony Khan. Mone stated “It’s been awesome [laughs]. It’s been so awesome. But still sometimes, I sometimes still don’t know what I’m doing week to week because Tony [Khan] is so busy, but once I get here, he’s so easy to talk to, and if I don’t like a certain thing, we can make something work, and he’s just very open to creating, and he loves creating for AEW. It’s been amazing so far.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
MJF recently reflected on Twitter about the upcoming Konosuke Takeshita vs. Adam Cole match at this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This match features the stipulation of if Cole wins, then he would have won three matches in a row and would get a match against MJF at AEW Full Gear 2024. MJF stated “I’ve wrestled Takeshita in one of the greatest Dynamite matches of all time. He’s an incredible professional wrestler with fierce athleticism and blinding speed, plus I gave Don Callis my Dynamite Diamond Ring. Adam Cole is Anthropomorphic yellow mop. Case dismissed.“
In a recent interview with the Casual Conversations with The Classic podcast, Aubrey Edwards gave her thoughts about her currently working on “other stuff” for AEW Games. Edwards stated “I currently have two video games out on the App Store, AEW: Rise to the Top and AEW: Figure Fighters, so you can download those both now on Android and Apple devices. I actually did not work on Fight Forever. So I can’t really comment on that at all. There was a team working on that, and they basically said, ‘Hey, we’ve got this whole mobile division. Can you kind of take care of that?’ So I was working on Elite General Manager as that game was kind of coming together, and then I moved into Rise to the Top, I moved into Figure Fighters, and then I may or may not be working on other stuff. But I’ve been very busy with the AEW games side of things during the entire time that Fight Forever was sort in the public space and whatnot, just kind of over here in the corner by myself. It’s like, ‘Yeah, you guys handle that. I’m just gonna go play over here, and we’re just gonna keep releasing all of these awesome games.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
