Kenny Omega Makes Appearance & Issues Challenge for Wrestle Dynasty

Monday’s Power Struggle 2024 event for New Japan Pro Wrestling in Osaka, Japan featured Kenny Omega making an appearance.

During the show, Omega came out to the ring and grabbed a microphone. Omega stated that he will be returning to the ring for AEW and NJPW’s co-promoted Wrestle Dynasty event on January 5, 2025 at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan. Omega stated that he will be representing AEW and issued an official challenge to any young NJPW wrestler at the event.

In a follow-up, NJPW announcer Chris Charlton and Walker Stewart stated during the Finals of the Super Junior Tag League 2024 that they were informed that Omega was involved in a backstage altercation with Bullet Club War Dogs’ Gabe Kidd.

Ichiban Sweet Boys Wins 2024 Super Junior Tag League

Monday’s NJPW Super Junior Tag League also featured TMDK’s Ichiban Sweet Boys (Kosei Fujita & Robbie Eagles) defeating Catch 2/2 (Francesco Akira & TJP) in the Finals of the Super Junior Tag League to become the winners of this year’s tournament.

As a result of their victory, Ichiban Sweet Boys earned a shot against Intergalactic Jet Setters (Kevin Knight & KUSHIDA) for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 19 on January 4, 2025.

Following the match, Intergalactic Jet Setters came out to the ring to confront Ichiban Sweet Boys leading to Knight & KUSHIDA stating that they wanted to put their tag titles on the line against ISB and Catch 2/2. This led to Catch 2/2 coming out to the ring to accept making the match as a Three-way but only for a brief period after Bullet Club War Dogs’ Drilla Moloney & Clark Connors running out and attacked everyone with chairs. Moloney & Connors grabbed a microphone and talked about getting involved in this title match and you can’t have a Wrestle Kingdom without the War Dogs.

El Desperado Makes Surprise Return & Challenges DOUKI for IWGP Jr. Title at Wrestle Kingdom 19

Monday’s NJPW Power Struggle 2024 event also featured El Desperado making his surprise return.

Following DOUKI’s hard fought victory over Master Wato to retain his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, DOUKI’s victory celebration was cut short by El Desperado’s music playing and came out to the ring. El Desperado grabbed a microphone and praised the match DOUKI and Master Wato had tonight. El Desperado then issued a challenge to DOUKI for his title at Wrestle Kingdom 19, which DOUKI accepted.

This was El Desperado’s first appearance in NJPW since this past July due to a meniscus injury and surgery.

SANADA Turns Heel on Just Five Guys & Joins Bullet Club War Dogs

Monday’s NJPW Power Struggle 2024 event also featured SANADA turning heel on Just Five Guys and joining Bullet Club War Dogs.

During Taichi’s match against David Finlay for the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship, SANADA came out to be at ringside to provide support for his fellow Just Five Guys member. Taichi then hit the Black Mephisto to Finlay for a near fall that was broken up by SANADA grabbing the referee’s leg and yanking him out of the ring. This led to Taichi being confused over what SANADA leading to SANADA unzipping his J5G sweat jacket revealing a Bullet Club War Dogs tank top underneath it. This led to Finlay attacking Taichi with his shillelagh and followed it with the Overkill for the pinfall victory after the referee recovered to his senses.

Following the match, TAKA Michinoku confronted SANADA over what he did, which SANADA responded hitting a low blow kick in return. SANADA then attacked Taichi leading to DOUKI coming out to confront SANADA only to be prevented from getting into the ring by SANADA.

Ricochet Makes Surprise Return at NJPW Power Struggle 2024

Monday’s NJPW Power Struggle 2024 event also featured Ricochet making a surprise return appearance to New Japan.

Following Sabre Jr.’s victory over Shingo Takagi to retain the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, Sabre Jr. gave a speech and called out for someone to come out to face him for his title at Wrestle Kingdom 19. This led to Shota Umino coming out to accept the challenge and called Sabre Jr. a “dickhead” which Sabre Jr. responding back calling him the same.

After Umino left to the back, Sabre Jr. finished up his speech only to be interrupted by Ricochet’s music. Ricochet came out from the crowd and laid out Sabre Jr. Ricochet then grabbed a microphone and issued a challenge to Sabre Jr. for his title at Wrestle Dynasty. This led to Umino coming back out and Ricochet leaving the ring. Sabre Jr. then attacked Umino out of frustration leading to Umino responding back laying out Sabre Jr. with a Death Rider before leaving again.

This was Ricochet’s first appearance in NJPW since October of 2017.

United Empire Wins IWGP Tag Titles at NJPW Power Struggle 2024

Monday’s NJPW Power Struggle 2024 featured United Empire (Great-O-Khan & HENARE) defeating TMDK (Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholls) to become the new IWGP Tag Team Champions.
