More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for September 25th

The October 2nd episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a small decline in overall viewership, key demographic ratings, and key demographic rankings. This week’s show was notable for being the Dynamite 5 Year Anniversary Show special.

AEW drew 680,000 viewers and a 0.20 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 8th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines this week was due to a combination of stiff sports competition from the 2024 MLB Playoffs, AEW’s long overrun gamble not working out in the end, and the large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 30.6% compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the gains from their Over 50 demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given, and their older male key demographic viewership group, which was up 7.7% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that had AEW’s show been just two hours, this week’s show would have drawn 704,000 overall viewers and a 0.21 rating instead. Meltzer reported that AEW’s lead-in programming Big Bang Theory drew 957,000 viewers and a 0.18 key demographic rating.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 MLB Playoffs Game 2 of New York Mets vs. Milwaukee Brewers drew 3,690,000 viewers on ESPN, the 2024 MLB Playoffs Game 2 of Atlanta Braves vs. San Diego Padres drew 2,052,000 viewers on ESPN2, Survivor drew 4,336,000 viewers on CBS, Expedition X drew 702,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, The Challenge drew 517,000 viewers on MTV, and Real Housewives of Salt Lake City drew 325,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 274,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 61,000 viewers (down 19.7%), Females 18-34 had 18,000 viewers (down 52.6%), Males 35-49 had 140,000 viewers (up 7.7%), and Females 35-49 had 55,000 viewers (down 21.4%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership skew was 73.4% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 15% in overall viewership and down 24.7% in key demographic viewership. AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 54.9% compared to the same week last year.

The September 27th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and key demographic ranking and a small decline in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 276,000 viewers and a 0.08 key demographic rating on TNT.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s decline that week was due to stiff sports competition from college football and the large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 42.1% compared to the prior week’s show. Out of AEW’s four key demographic viewership groups, Meltzer reported that AEW’s Females 18-34 group only had 2,000 viewers for that night’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the College football game of Washington vs. Rutgers drew 1,929,000 viewers on FOX, the College football game of Stanford vs. Syracuse drew 3,259,000 viewers on ESPN, On Patrol Live drew 589,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, and 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 313,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 113,000 viewers. AEW’s 18-34 had 20,000 viewers (down 28.6%), Females 18-34 had 2,000 viewers (down 80%), Males 35-49 had 50,000 viewers (down 37.5%), and Females 35-49 had 41,000 viewers (down 6.8%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 61.9% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 24% in overall viewership and down 38.9% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 key demographic viewership was down 66.7% compared to the same week last year.

The September 28th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership, a small increase in key demographic rankings, and a slight increase in key demographic ratings. That week’s show was notable for being the Collision Grand Slam 2024 special.

AEW drew 436,000 viewers and a 0.13 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 11th place.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due almost entirely from their Over 50 demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given. Meltzer reported that AEW’s overall key demographic viewership group was only up 3.1% while their younger key demographic viewership group was even compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the stiff sports competition that night from College football. Meltzer also reported that Collision managed to top WWE’s replay of their WrestleMania 41 documentary special that aired head-to-head on The CW that night, which drew 261,000 viewers and a 0.03 rating.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the College football game of Georgia vs. Alabama drew 11,985,000 viewers on ABC, the College football game of Illinois vs. Penn State drew 3,093,000 viewers on NBC, the College football game of Stanford vs. Clemson drew 1,004,000 viewers on ESPN, the College football game of Cincinnati vs. Texas Tech drew 417,000 viewers on ESPN2, the College football game of Iowa State vs. Houston drew 372,000 viewers on FS1, the MLB game of New York Mets vs. Milwaukee Brewers drew 1,621,000 viewers on FOX, and On Patrol Live drew 547,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 168,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 31,000 viewers (up 6.9%), Females 18-34 had 23,000 viewers (down 8%), Males 35-49 had 88,000 viewers (down 2.2%), and Females 35-49 had 26,000 viewers (up 36.8%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 70.8% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 19.8% in overall viewership but down 9.2% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 14.3% compared to the same week last year.
