AEW: Mercedes Mone on Potential of Shane McMahon Joining AEW, Kenny Omega Diverticulitis Injury Update, Big Push Reportedly Planned for Konosuke Takeshita

Mercedes Mone Comments on Potential of Shane McMahon Joining AEW

A recent issue of the Mone Mag fan newsletter featured Mercedes Mone giving her thoughts about her recent interaction with Shane McMahon at an airport in New York City, New York and the potential of McMahon joining AEW in the future.

“Seeing Shane’s incredible heart and passion for wrestling makes me think he has a lot of unfinished business. It also makes me think is Shane coming to AEW? I’m here for it, and I’m sure our roster is too. Regardless, it just seems like Shane belongs in the wrestling business. I admit if he doesn’t come back to wrestling, it will make me sad for him. I know what it’s like to be removed from what you love and how sad it made me. I imagine he feels the same way.”

Kenny Omega Diverticulitis Injury & AEW Return Plans Update

As noted before, Kenny Omega has been out of action for AEW since this past January due to him suffering from diverticulitis and underwent surgery this past May for it. Omega made an in-person return appearance at the May 1st AEW shows in Winnipeg, which was notable for Omega getting physical in the ring during The Elite’s brawl with him.

New Japan Pro Wrestling held a recent interview with Omega. One of the topics discussed included Omega providing an update on his recovery from diverticulitis.

“If they cleared me tomorrow, I would be back in the ring. There’s a lot I don’t know right now, but I’d absolutely love to be on a stage like Wrestle Dynasty.”

Omega also gave his thoughts about what would be his first priority for his return to AEW.

“First priority is making my return, but if I can come back, I do want to face the Bucks. I want revenge, but more importantly, I want to do it the right way. The first time (Hiroshi) Tanahashi and I wrestled, it was for the belt, and then in 2019, it was a lot on the line for the both of us. Now, with the two of us aligned, next time we wrestle, I’d want to do it together. I’ve been a bad guy for a lot of my time, especially in AEW. I cheated to win the AEW Title. I don’t want that to be the memory of myself that stays with young fans. If Tanahashi and I meet in that ring again, I’d want to do it as his partner.”

AEW Reportedly Giving Big Push to Konosuke Takeshita

AEW reportedly is currently planning to give Konosuke Takeshita a big push in the company, according to Fightful Select.

It was reported that their sources stated that Takeshita’s recent main event appearances on AEW Rampage shows and working with numerous top stars in AEW was not an accident and instead part of AEW officials current plans to give him a big push.

Those spoken to stated that this push would be the biggest Takeshita has seen since joining AEW and the goal by AEW officials is to further establish him as an upper card talent.

It was also reported that Takeshita was also expected to be slotted into a major program, which was later revealed to be him getting involved in the Ricochet vs. Will Ospreay feud and competing for the AEW International Championship at WrestleDream 2024.
