ROH World Title Match Set for AEW WrestleDream 2024

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite 5 Year Anniversary Show featured the first of three new matches announced for the card of AEW WrestleDream 2024.

This new match announced was a ROH World Championship match of Chris Jericho vs. Mark Briscoe (c).

This match was setup following an in-ring promo segment involving Jericho and Briscoe. During the show, Big Bill was in the ring and introduced everyone to Jericho and The Learning Tree. This led to Jericho and Bryan Keith coming out to the ring and Jericho grabbed a microphone. After some words by about AEW celebrating five years of Dynamite and claiming he was the reason for AEW’s new media rights deal, Jericho talked about the anniversary of his pro wrestling career and his recent victory over Briscoe. Jericho stated that the Ocho is gone and its time for him to become the Nueve. Jericho then issued a challange to Briscoe for his ROH World title at WrestleDream.

This led to Briscoe and The Conglomeration coming out to the ring. After Briscoe and Jericho told their guys to stand down and leave the ring, Briscoe talked about not making excuses for his loss to Jericho at last week’s Collision Grand Slam show. Briscoe stated that logically Jericho should get a shot at his title and that works for him because he has a shot to put a win over Jericho as a notch in his belt. After some more words about the word of the day being consequential, Jericho interrupted Briscoe and started to insult him saying that his late brother Jay wouldn’t have lost to him. After some more insults by Jericho, Briscoe responding laying out Jericho with a strike and told him to take his brother’s name out of his mouth. Briscoe then accepted Jericho’s challenge and promised to bring a Briscoe style whooping to him at WrestleDream.

Darby Allin Issues Open Challenge Match for AEW WrestleDream 2024

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite 5 Year Anniversary Show also featured the second of three new matches announced for AEW WrestleDream 2024.

This new match announced was an Open Challenge match of Darby Allin vs. mystery opponent.

This match was setup following a video promo segment involving Allin. During his promo, Allin brought up a past incident about him dealing with some hooligans on a metro ride one time. Allin stated that it reminded him of his situation with Moxley and how he was unable to beat him at last week’s Dynamite Grand Slam show. Allin then stated that he will be in Tacoma for WrestleDream and issued an open challenge for a match at the show. Allin stated that he is looking for some revenge and proceeded to attack a dilapidated car that was next to him.

Jay White Makes Surprise Return on Wednesday’s Dynamite 5 Year Anniversary Show

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite 5 Year Anniversary Show also featured Jay White making his surprise return to AEW.

Following Hangman Adam Page’s victory over Juice Robinson by nefarious cheating means, Page took off his belt and attempted to attack Robinson. This led to White’s music and him running out to the ring and attacked Page from behind. White’s brawl with Page spilled to the outside and into the crowd that ended with White spearing Page through a table. This led to AEW officials rushing out to separate the two and end the brawl.

This was White’s first appearance in AEW since this past July.

Katsuyori Shibata vs. Jack Perry for TNT Title Set for AEW WrestleDream 2024

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite 5 Year Anniversary Show also featured the third of three new matches announced for AEW WrestleDream 2024, which takes place on October 12th at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington.

This new match announced was a TNT Championship match of Katsuyori Shibata vs. Jack Perry (c).

This match was setup following a backstage promo and brawl segment involving Perry and Shibata. During the show, Renee Paquette was waiting in the parking lot for Perry to arrive to get some words from him. After Perry arrived in his bus and made his way inside, Shibata showed up to interrupt and used his phone’s English language translator to issue a challenge to him for his TNT title at WrestleDream. Perry responded stating he will think about it and started to walk away. After Shibata turned his back and started to do the same, Perry ran back and attacked Shibata from behind laying him out. Perry then accepted the challenge before walking away.

Special Start Time & Current Card for Next Week’s Dynamite Title Tuesday 2024 Show

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite 5 Year Anniversary Show also featured the announcement of a special start time and one new match for the card of next week’s Dynamite Title Tuesday 2024 show on October 8th at the Spokane Arena in Spokane, Washington.

In regards to the special start time, AEW commentator Excalibur announced that next week’s show will be starting at a later than usual start time of 9PM EST.

In regards to the new match, this was announced to be a tag team match of Bryan Danielson & Wheeler Yuta vs. Claudio Castagnoli & PAC.
