More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for September 11th

The September 11th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership, a small increase in key demographic rankings, and a slight increase in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 716,000 viewers and a 0.21 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 2nd place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s increases this week was due to the large gains from their Over 50 demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given, and overall key demographic viewership group, which was up 8.1% compared to last week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the rebound in AEW’s lead-in programming Big Bang Theory’s ratings that drew 984,000 viewers and 0.14 rating compared to last week’s series low. This reportedly offset the stiff competition from the 2024 MTV Music Awards show that night.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 MTV Music Awards drew 728,000 viewers on MTV, 229,000 viewers on Comedy Central, 260,000 viewers on BET, and 166,000 viewers on CMT, the WNBA game of Las Vegas Aces vs. Indiana Fever drew 678,000 viewers on NBA TV, the MLB Showcase game drew 314,000 viewers on MLB Network, Expedition X drew 841,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, and Million Dollar List Los Angeles drew 527,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 280,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 45,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 41,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 138,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 56,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership skew was 65.4% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 19.4% in overall viewership and down 30.3% in key demographic viewership. AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 46.4% compared to the same week last year.

The September 6th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a small increase in overall viewership and a slight increase in key demographic ratings. That week’s show was notable for having AEW’s Collision show as the lead-in programming.

AEW drew 233,000 viewers and a 0.08 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night is currently not known.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the NFL game of Green Bay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagles drew 14,200,00 viewers on Peacock, the 2024 U.S. Open Men’s Semifinal drew 1,781,000 viewers on ESPN, the College football game of BYU vs. Southern Methodist drew 917,000 viewers on ESPN2, the College football game of Western Illinois vs. Indiana drew 142,000 viewers on Big Ten Network, and 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 377,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 111,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 58.8% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 39.5% in overall viewership and down 34.7% in key demographic viewership.

More on AEW Collision Viewership for September 6th

The September 6th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership and a large decline in key demographic ratings. That week’s show was notable for airing on a Friday instead of its usual Saturday night timeslot and for also going head-to-head against WWE’s SmackDown show.

AEW drew 157,000 viewers and a 0.04 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 19th place.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to a combination of Collision airing outside of its normal night and very stiff sports competition from the NFL and WWE’s SmackDown show at night that was also the final episode of SmackDown’s run on FOX. Another reason reportedly was due to the large decline from their overall key demographic viewership group, which went from 139,000 viewers for the prior week’s show to only 58,000 for that night’s show.
