Freddie Prince Jr. Provides New Update on Progress of His Plans for Launch of New Wrestling Promotion

As noted before, actor and former WWE writer Freddie Prince Jr. has been working on plans since May of 2022 to launch a new wrestling promotion.

A recent episode of the Wrestling With Freddie podcast featured host Prince Jr. providing an update on his current plans for the launch of a potential new wrestling promotion.

“I’ve brought you on the journey as much as I can on starting my own wrestling promotion. I’m much closer to the finish line than the start line, and I’m much closer to a ‘yes’ than a ‘no,’ although a ‘no’ can still happen, and my dream can be crushed. If it doesn’t work with this place, then that will be it for at least this year, and I’ll have to reset and find another way to try and make it work down the road. I already got a ‘yes’ from a wonderful place, from the head of their network, so you’re like, ‘Oh, yeah, it’s done.’ Not quite. They are a subsidiary of a much larger company/studio, and they need to get a yes from one of the head honchos in their finance department to get the amount of money that I need to pull this off. So if that person says yes, then I have wrestling promotion, and I should know by the end of the week. So if you’re listening to this on Thursday, by Friday, I think I’m gonna have a yes or a no. So maybe next week, I’ll get to announce either great success or tragic failure [laughs], and we’ll see. Once the process is over, I’m more than willing to talk about all the places that I went to, how I felt about it, and I’ll be able to talk more about the promotion and what it is and how we’re gonna pull it off and what kind of style. But anyway, that’s your update.”

Misc. Wrestling News & Notes

House of Glory recently announced that Joe Hendry will be making an appearance for the company at their Believe In The Glory event on September 29th in Queens, New York.

Friday’s Old Habits Die Screaming event for Black Label Pro Wrestling in Chicago, Illinois featured Raj Dhesi (former Jinder Mahal in WWE) defeating Dominic Garrini to become the new BLP Heavyweight Champion. This was Dhesi’s official debut in BLP and his first match since his release from WWE this past April.

Women of Wrestling recently announced that Pluto TV will be launching a new exclusive WOW channel on their service.

Friday’s Super Viernes event for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre at the Arena Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico featured Místico, Volador Jr., & Mascara Dorada defeating Death Triangle (Rey Fenix, Penta El Zero Miedo, & PAC) in a Best 2-out-of-3 Falls match. This match was notable for Fenix being refereed to as “King” and Penta being refereed to as “Lucha Brother” for their ring names. The reason for the name change is currently rumored to be due to CMLL not wanting to risk any legal-related trademarks issues from their rival Lucha Libre AAA.

Friday’s CMLL Super Viernes event in Mexico City also featured MJF making a surprise video appearance. MJF gave a promo calling out Templario ahead of their upcoming match for the AEW International Championship at CMLL’s Super Viernes event in August 2nd. MJF stated “That’s right, baby. Look at that gorgeous belt. It’s perfect. Templario, congratulations, buddy. Congratulations, you have won a tournament at the biggest opportunity at the biggest opportunity of all time. That is what you have earned yourself, my friend. You have earned yourself a shot at the best title in the world, the American Championship, but more importantly, you’ve earned yourself a brush with greatness with the greatest wrestler on God’s green earth, Maxwell Jacob Friedman. Templario, I’ve heard great things. I’ve heard you’re a freak athlete. If I’m being honest, I’m sure it was all lies. I mean, let’s face it. I do love, however, when I travel to Mexico. I love to have a fiesta. Arriba! It’s fun, yeah. But if I’m being honest, the real reason I love going to Mexico is because I get to wrestle luchadors, and the reason I love to wrestle luchadors is because when I get in that ring, it ain’t a fiesta, baby. It’s a siesta. I mean, it’s easy pickings. All of you luchadores, you’re slow, you’re plodding, you’re dumb, your masks look stupid. It’s the easiest time of my life, and then afterwards. I’m gonna have myself some great food. You guys have good food. Granted, our food is better, but it’s fine, it’s fine. I am excited, Templario, to give this opportunity of a lifetime. August 2nd, you, my friend, are going to get to wrestle an American hero, and for that, Templario, and for the fact I’m probably gonna beat you in five seconds, you’ll get to go home nice and quick to your family, and you can thank me later.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
