WWE: New Trademark for Former WCW PPV Event, Je’Von Evans on Breakout Moment That Led to WWE Signing, More News

WWE Files New Trademark for Former WCW’s SuperBrawl Event

WWE filed a new trademark for “SuperBrawl” on July 2nd for wrestling and entertainment-related purposes to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is the same name as former WCW’s pay-per-view events series, which was held from 1991 to 2001.

This is also the second time WWE has had a trademark for the term, following them abandoning the trademark in 2001 after their purchase of WVW. SuperBrawl was also one of the trademarks that Cody Rhodes filed for in 2019 and held ownership of until abandoning it in 2020.

Je’Von Evans Comments on Breakout Moment That Led to His WWE Signing

Sports Illustrated held a recent interview with NXT talent Je’Von Evans. One of the topics discussed included Evans thoughts about the process that led to his signing with WWE.

“I wasn’t originally booked, but my friend was wrestling on the card and he couldn’t make it, so I asked if I could take his place. The promoter said I could, and I was like, ‘Say less.’ One of the agents for WWE was at that show, and we spoke after the match. Gabe saw me in this elimination match, and after I got eliminated, he met me at the curtain. He was like, ‘We need to exchange info right now.

I’ve been telling friends since the third grade I was going to be a WWE wrestler. My teachers would get mad at me, telling me I needed a backup plan or I should go to college. But I didn’t listen.”

As noted before, Cody Rhodes held a post-show ceremony honoring his late father and WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes following this past Friday’s WWE SmackDown show at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. In a recent interview with The Pivot Podcast, Rhodes gave his thoughts about his recent ceremony honoring of his late father in Madison Square Garden. Rhodes stated “At 8 years old, that was my goal. My goal was to do what I did last night. I wish he had been alive for it and had that moment but after his passing, the ball started rolling in a completely different way and everything just started coming to me in unique and different routes than I thought. I was happy that we did it for the MSG crowd. Of course, we’ll blast it out everywhere but just specifically to have that moment because the story was, I was 8 years old, I saw that picture, I wanted to be a pro wrestler. So, I got to live the picture and I got to keep it versus him getting all excited, holding it up there and then to have the heat of it being taken away but he loved the Garden and the Garden was really good to Dusty and they didn’t have to be.” Rhodes also stated that he had sent a message to his late father after his Undisputed WWE Championship victory at WrestleMania 40. Rhodes stated “At Mania, I had a brief moment where I got to look up – and I was very shocked that Michael Cole or nobody could pick this up, maybe it was the shot was so quick – But I looked up and I said, ‘Sorry, it took me so long.’ I think I had planned on saying a bazillion other things but that’s really how I felt. Like hey, this is really cool, your widow she’s in the ring, my mom, your family’s taken care of and generationally we’re setting everything up but I’m sorry it took me so long. Because he was a believer. Like, not just that’s my boy, like no I think he’s got it, he’s just got to find it. Then I did, it was just later than anticipated.” (Transcript h/t: F4WOnline.com)

In a recent interview with The Ring Report, Wade Barrett gave his thoughts about how WWE has changed under WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s leadership. Barrett stated “Well, I’ve noticed that and I’ll compare my time as a commentator to my time in the ring. And I think there are a lot more surprises these days. And we’ll call it the Triple H era, the Paul Levesque era, whatever it’s being called now. I think something we’re really good at and it reminds me of being a fan back in the late 90s in the attitude era, you can’t miss a show at the moment. It feels as a fan and even as a commentator when I’m at home watching the other shows, I feel like I cannot miss it because something big is going to happen every week.

As noted before, Chad Gable signed a new contract with WWE this past June to stay in the company for the foreseeable future. In a recent interview with the Cheap Heat with Peter Rosenberg podcast, Gable gave his thoughts about what would have been his plans had he not signed a new contract with WWE. Gable stated “It’s great for everybody to have options. Everybody will quickly jump to the conclusion that if I were to not re-sign, I’d be going somewhere else. The reality is, the Masters Degree thing is real. I do have the Degrees and I have other interests. Motion graphics, filmmaking, all these things. Production is very interesting to me and a passion of mine. I thought a cool aspect that some people tend to do is that when their contracts come up or when they’re done wrestling, they just disappear and ride off into the sunset. It’s not some big fanfare. That’s the way I always saw myself. Who knows. I don’t know what I would have done. I may have tried to go to Hollywood and tried making films or title sequences. I don’t know where my head was at. I was kind of open to everything for awhile there as I was considering it. I always like the idea of once you’re done, just drift off and people say goodbye and that’s it, you’re done.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
