As noted before, Sunday’s AEW Double or Nothing 2024 event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada featured MJF making his surprise return from a shoulder injury to AEW.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that MJF was seen flying from the JFK Airport in New York City to Phoenix, Arizona based on a PWI Elite subscriber who was on the same flight and had contacted him. Johnson speculated that the reason for this was likely AEW or MJF’s way of going out of their way to hide his return and prevent it from being leaked early. Johnson reported that Las Vegas is only just a few hour drive from Phoenix.
In regards to MJF revealing he’s staying in AEW and not leaving, Johnson reported that MJF had been locked into a new contract for a long while following the belief that his original contract expired at the end of 2023.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that AEW officials had made plans well ahead of Double or Nothing 2024 for MJF to make his return to the company.
It was reported that MJF wearing a brace on his shoulder in recent weeks was meant to be his way of “throwing off” people on the exact status of his injury situation and recovery. It was also reported that it is not known if MJF had actually underwent shoulder surgery at some point during his time away.
It was also reported that AEW officials currently have significant creative plans in place for MJF to be in a top program immediately now that he has returned from injury to the company.
Following his appearance, MJF reflected on Twitter about his return to AEW.
Y’all were gagging on it with a smile on your face for 5 years straight, then pretended you didn’t like the taste?
