More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for May 1st

The May 1st episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a small increase in overall viewership and a slight increase in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 703,000 viewers and a 0.24 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 6th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s increases this week was due to a combination of their West Coast feed not airing the show live unlike with last week’s show and the increase from their Over 50 viewership group, which its percentage was not given. This reportedly offset the weaker than usual lead-in programming viewership from the Big Bang Theory, which drew 869,000 viewers and a 0.14 rating.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Game 5 of Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics drew 2,461,000 viewers on TNT and 397,000 viewers on TruTV, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Game 5 of Vegas Golden Knights vs. Dallas Stars drew 1,216,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB simulcast games of New York Yankees vs. Baltimore and Colorado vs. Miami drew 247,000 viewers on MLB Network, Survivor drew 4,786,000 viewers on CBS, My 600-LB Life drew 332,000 viewers on TLC, House Hunters Repack drew 711,000 viewers on Home & Garden TV, and Top Chef drew 582,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 310,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 68.1% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 794,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 643,000 viewers for their seventh quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 9.4% in overall viewership and down 16.4% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 34.8% compared to the same week last year.

The May 1st episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership and a large increase in key demographic ratings and key demographic rankings. This week’s show was notable for Rampage being preempted to a late Wednesday night timeslot and aired as a live show on TBS due to TNT’s 2024 NBA and NHL Playoffs commitments on the network for this Friday night.

AEW drew 431,000 viewers and a 0.15 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 11th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases this week was due to the higher than usual lead-in programming viewership from that night’s AEW Dynamite show and AEW’s female key demographic viewership being stronger than usual throughout that night’s three-hour block of AEW programming. This reportedly offset the declines from their male key demographic viewership group, which dropped by 46.9% following that night’s Dynamite show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Game 5 of Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Clippers drew 2,800,000 viewers on TNT and 378,000 viewers on TruTV, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Game 5 of Los Angeles Kings vs. Edmonton Oilers drew 803,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB simulcast games of Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona and Cleveland drew 137,000 viewers on MLB Network, and House Hunters drew 775,000 viewers on Home & Garden TV.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 192,000 viewers.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 46.6% in overall viewership and up 66.7% in key demographic viewership. The reason for the large increases was due to last year’s show aired at a Friday afternoon timeslot.

The April 27th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership and a large increase in key demographic ratings and key demographic rankings. That week’s show was notable for being preempted to a later start time of 8:30PM due to TNT’s 2024 NBA Playoffs commitments on the network that night.

AEW drew 621,000 viewers and a 0.21 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 7th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s increases that week was due to the very larger than usual lead-in viewership from the 2024 NBA Playoffs game that night and the very large gains from their younger key demographic viewership, older male key demographic viewership, and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were up 196.9%, 31.8%, and 39.2% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the stiff sports competition that night from the 2024 NBA Playoffs and the show starting 8 minutes earlier than advertised that would have mainly affected AEW’s DVR viewers and first quarter hour viewership.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Game 4 of Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Lakers drew 5,669,000 viewers on ABC, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Game 4 of Boston Bruins vs. Toronto Maple Leafs drew 1,138,000 viewers on TBS and 254,000 viewers on TruTV, the MLB simulcast games of Houston vs. Colorado and New York Yankees vs. Milwaukee drew 143,000 on MLB Network, and On Patrol Live drew 861,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 282,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 60,000 viewers (up 252.9%), Females 18-34 had 35,000 viewers (up 133.3%), Males 35-49 had 116,000 viewers (up 31.8%), and Females 35-49 had 71,000 viewers (up 39.2%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 176,000 male viewers and 106,000 female viewers for a split of 62.4% in favor of males.

The April 27th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership and a large decline in key demographic ratings and key demographic rankings. That week’s show was notable for Rampage being preempted to a late Saturday night timeslot and aired as a live show due to TNT’s 2024 NHL Playoffs commitments on the network for that Friday night.

AEW drew 293,000 viewers and a 0.09 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 39th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to the later than usual timeslot of 10:30PM EST for the show’s start time and the large declines from their younger female key demographic viewership, older male key demographic viewership, and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were down 65.4%, 31.6%, and 34.8% compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the larger than usual lead-in viewership from that night’s AEW Collision show and the gains from their younger male key demographic viewership group, which was up 45% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Game 4 of Boston Bruins vs. Toronto Maple Leafs drew 1,138,000 viewers on TBS and 254,000 viewers on TruTV, the MLB game of Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Seattle Mariners drew 132,000 viewers on FS1, UFC drew 660,000 viewers on ESPN, On Patrol Live drew 861,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, and House Hunters International drew 801,000 viewers on Home & Garden TV.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 120,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 29,000 viewers (up 45%), Females 18-35 had 9,000 viewers (down 65.4%), Males 35-49 had 52,000 viewers (down 31.6%), and Females 35-49 had 30,000 viewers (down 34.8%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/females viewership split was 81,000 male viewers and 39,000 female viewers for a split of 67.5% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 1.7% in overall viewership and up 2.6% in key demographic viewership.
