As noted before, Mercedes Mone has been out of action since this past May due to an ankle injury. During her time away, Mone’s contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling and Stardom expired and has resumed talks with AEW for a potential deal. These talks have reached a point where Mone is now currently expected to make her official debut for AEW this March.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that AEW officials current plans are to make Mone’s debut be a big deal for the company. Melzter reported that AEW officials had plans at one point to make the official announcement or at least tease her official debut this past weekend. These plans reportedly were delayed due to AEW officials not wanting their announcement to be overshadowed by the far bigger news in wrestling over this past week regarding the Vince McMahon sex trafficking lawsuit allegations and McMahon’s resignation from TKO and WWE.
Fightful Select reported that they have yet to confirm from their sources if Tony Khan’s “big announcement” for the February 7th Dynamite show will be about Mone’s official arrival in the company. It was reported that their sources denied being true the portion of Meltzer’s report about AEW having plans to announce Mone’s debut at the January 27th Collision show. It was reported that AEW CEO Tony Khan never had any plans to make this announcement on that date.
It was also reported that those spoken to within WWE stated that they believed that Mone had signed with AEW weeks ago but this was something that their others sources have yet to confirm.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that one source spoken to stated that Mone has already filmed content for AEW in relation to her planned debut but this was something that has yet to be confirmed by his other sources.
