WWE reportedly is currently working on plans to give LA Knight a “mega push” in the company, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Dave Meltzer reported that his sources stated that Knight is currently expected to receive a mega push going forward due to him currently being a very strong ratings generator and merchandise seller for the company.
Meltzer reported that despite Knight getting very hot crowd reactions, that would not have played a major role in him getting a mega push had WWE officials felt that his hotness with crowds was only as just a fad and not something with strong long term indications behind it. Meltzer reported that WWE officials will only take crowd support of a talent to a certain level if there is not any strong economic indications behind it. This reportedly has not the case with Knight who has been a success for the company across the board.
In regards to Knight’s contract status within WWE, Fightful Select reported that their sources denied a recent report from PWInsider about Knight being close to finalizing or had recently signed a new contract extension with the company.
It was reported that those spoken to stated that WWE officials began making overtures to Knight to sign a new contract extension around the time of this past August’s SummerSlam 2023 event. It was also reported that talks between Knight and WWE officials for a new contract are nowhere close to being finalized and that this likely would be done well ahead of his contract’s current expiration date, which is believed to be somewhere in late 2024 to early 2025.
WWE officials reportedly currently want Knight to be signed to a new long term deal before they go ahead with their big push plans for him. WWE officials reportedly also have recognized how quickly Knight has developed a significant following with fans since his call up to the main roster and currently hold very high views of him.
It was also reported that some of WWE’s initial offers for a new deal were countered by Knight but details regarding the counter offers are currently not known.
