In an interview with DAZN last month, New Japan Pro Wrestling talent Will Ospreay stated that he is interested in working for AEW for their upcoming All In event this August at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Ospreay had stated “It would mean a lot but I also understand I don’t work there. If there is an opportunity, then I’ll take it with both hands.”
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that AEW officials current have plans in place for Ospreay to be involved at their upcoming event in London. Meltzer reported that as of earlier this week, Ospreay has been booked to work at the event. Meltzer also reported that Ospreay’s opponent for his match at the event is currently not known.
Meltzer reported that Ospreay’s appearances on AEW programming during last year’s build for their Forbidden Door event ended up generating some of their highest ratings for their shows in the United Kingdom market.
Meltzer stated:
“For the UK ratings, the biggest series of events – not every single week – was last year when they were building up Forbidden Door and Will Ospreay was on the show. That was really a peak of UK ratings. There were a couple of times that they beat that later but not on a consistent basis and that was also with a move to a better time slot.
But in that bad time slot, that was the high point. So, whatever it means in the United States, who knows? In that country, the idea that Will Ospreay has never been a big star there, well, he’s a big enough star to move the ratings more than anyone else.”
