AEW: Kenny Omega vs. Jeff Cobb Set for Dynamite, House Rules “Nearly” $100K Gate, Powerhouse Hobbs

Kenny Omega vs. Jeff Cobb IWGP US Title Match Announced for Mar. 29th Dynamite Show

As noted before, New Japan Pro Wrestling talent Jeff Cobb recently issued a match challenge to Kenny Omega for his IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship. Cobb stated earlier this week that he would be traveling to the U.S. to confront Omega on next week’s AEW Dynamite show in St. Louis, Missouri.

AEW CEO Tony Khan announced earlier today that Omega will be defending his IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship against Cobb at this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in St. Louis. Khan also stated that tonight’s AEW Rampage show will be featuring a video showcasing this upcoming match.

AEW Reportedly Generated a “Nearly” $100,000 Gate for First House Rules Event in Ohio

AEW’s House Rules house show event on March 18th in Troy, Ohio reportedly generated almost $100,000 in live gate revenue, according to Wrestlenomics.

Brandon Thurston reported that the exact amount was $99,675 from 2,929 paid tickets at an average ticket price of $34 based on Troy city government public records.

Thurston reported that the associated expenses for running the event, such as renting the venue and paying talent, are currently not know nor if this event was profitable in the end for AEW.

Powerhouse Hobbs Comments on TNT Championship Victory

Denise Salcedo held a recent interview with Powerhouse Hobbs. One of the topics discussed included Hobbs’ thoughts on his TNT Championship victory over Wardlow on the March 8th AEW Dynamite show in Sacramento, California.

“It’s wild, it’s crazy. I was talking to Chris Jericho the night I won the championship, and then he texts me the next day, and he was like, ‘It’s almost like a Cinderella story, to go from enhancement talent to TNT Champion.’ During the pandemic era, nobody knew who the hell I was besides anybody local to the Bay Area in California, so it’s wild. Everywhere I go, I’m getting love, and sometimes I get some dirty looks wherever I go, but it’s alright with me. Today is a good day because it’s actually Powerhouse Hobbs Day in the city of East Palo Alto.”

Hobbs also gave his thoughts on him recently achieving a new level of success in his wrestling career following his TNT title victory.

“I knew eventually I would get here. I was told by my grandparents [that] everyone has a purpose in life. I’ve always felt that this was my purpose, to be a professional wrestler and entertain people. So it took a while, but I’m here, and I’m making the most of it. When we were in the Bay Area for that whole Revolution week, I had so many people come up to me, and it was very humbling and overwhelming that they were telling me they love how I represent the bay. I get that, more in other places as well, but it’s one of those things where I sit back when I’m alone, like ‘Damn, I’m actually here.’ I’m not taking it for granted, I’m making the most of it. This whole journey has been wild since I’ve been with AEW. I haven’t even hit three years yet. Everything is wild, if I sit back and actually think about it.”
