WWE Survivor Series WarGames Post-Show Media Scrum: Attendance, WarGames, Hell in a Cell, Becky Lynch, Sami Zayn

WWE held a post-show press conference following Saturday’s Survivor Series WarGames event in Boston, Massachusetts.

Some of the notable highlights included:

  • Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque stated that Survivor Series WarGames generated a sold out attendance of 15,600 for the event.
  • On the topic of the potential of WarGames becoming an annual tradition for Survivor Series events going forward, Levesque stated “I think we’ll see. It worked out incredibly well tonight, it was very exciting, we’ll see how that goes. In the process of looking at the overall year-to-year calendar, and seeing where things go and end up, I believe tonight was very successful, so it makes me feel positive. We’ll see where the future takes us.
  • On the topic of the potential of WarGames matches being held outside of Survivor Series events, Levesque stated “It could be. Hell in a Cell, stepping away for me, there was a feeling that Hell in a Cell is one of those things that is a giant blow off. If you’re calling somebody out at the end of something, you can challenge them to Hell in a Cell. I hear this speculation among fans about Hell in a Cell, Money in the Bank, Elimination Chamber, maybe those things should go away. Some of that, I hear. Hell in a Cell, I hear it. I had a highlight of my career, (Mick) Foley and I calling each other out on Hell in a Cell. When you get into, ‘I challenge you to Elimination Chamber with five other guys,’ it doesn’t work. Same thing, ‘I challenge you to Money in the Bank.’ There’s a difference there. I think we have to revaluate all of that, we have to look at that, and it’s really looking at the overall calander and saying, ‘what is the best place to put this? What is the best way to entertain our fans? What makes the most sense, one after the other.’ It’s no different than looking at a show and saying, ‘This match has to deliver,’ but it can’t take away from the rest of the show. It’s the whole arcing story of what we’re doing right now. Then it’s the whole year of what we put out, all together, there are so many layers to what we do that you have to keep in mind all of those, and we will moving forward. It’s up in the air, but it’s something we think about.
  • On the topic of “War Pig” by Ozzy Ozbourne being the official theme song for this year’s Survivor Series WarGames event, Levesque stated that he had called Ozbourne asking if he could use the song for WWE’s event. Levesque also stated that he had plans at one point of Ozbourne performing the song live at the event but the timing wasn’t right to do so.
  • During Becky Lynch’s portion of the press conference, Lynch gave her thoughts about her in-ring return from injury at the event. Lynch stated “My ass hurts, but other than that, I feel great. [laughs] I won, that’s always nice. I really like winning. My thing is, I always want to come back better than ever, and I feel like when I came back from having a child, I came back better than ever. Tonight was no different, and I feel like we tore the house down.”
  • Lynch also gave her thoughts about the finish of the Women’s WarGames match which featured Lynch performing a leg drop from the top of the cage onto Dakota Kai and IYO SKY through a table. Lynch stated “Lads, I was terrified [laughs]. No, I wasn’t terrified in the moment. I was terrified getting up there in practice today, I climbed up, I wanted to see the height of it. My palms were sweaty, knees weak, arms spaghetti. No vomit on my sweater already. When you have the energy of the crowd, I feel like anything is possible. It’s the people that let you feel like you’re a superhero and make you feel like a superhero, so then you become a superhero. God bless Dakota Kai and IYO SKY, I’m sure they’re feeling a lot worse than I am.”
  • During Sami Zayn and Paul Heyman’s portion of the press conference, Heyman gave his thoughts about Zayn’s work as a member of the Bloodline and his involvement was originally only planned to be a short term thing that evolved into him becoming a full-time member of the group. Heyman stated “The dichotomy that he has with every member of the Bloodline. How many times have you seen the Bloodline, absolutely cannot contain a laugh in the ring when we’re in front of a sold out arena with worldwide television cameras. Sami brings a dynamic that none of us were prepared for, and we’re prepared for everything. What Sami also brings is a connection with the audience that none of us can have because we’ve been too busy being the top act in the entire industry for over two years. Sami, to me, from my perspective and the Tribal Chief’s perspective, represents the member of the audience who gets his one chance to step in the ring and live out his dream, and does it so well, every week, that we say, ‘Do you mind coming back next Friday? We’d love to have you as part of the act.’ That’s who Sami has become. He’s a guy who was going to get a guest spot on a TV series and he ends up being part of the cast because he’s just so damn passionate and so good at what he does.”
