CM Punk on His Unscripted Promo Towards Hangman Page, Tony Khan on Issues Between Punk & Page

CM Punk Comments on His Unscripted Promo to Hangman Page

The August 17th AEW Dynamite show featured an infamous promo segment by CM Punk. During his promo, Punk went off the script calling out Hangman Adam Page to accept his match offer on the spot for the AEW World Championship for that night’s show, which went unanswered by Page. Following Page’s non-response, Punk lashed out insults towards Page before continuing with his actual scheduled promo about Jon Moxley.

Sports Illustrated held a recent interview with CM Punk. One of the topics discussed included Punk’s thoughts on his unscripted promo towards Page.

“That’s what I’m here to do, make people want to see what happens next. I’m trying to sell tickets to the live events. That goes back to me saying Twitter isn’t [the] real world. Twitter is a bunch of people that don’t really care about your opinion. They want to find like-minded opinions that share their worldview. I’m trying to tell stories, sell tickets, and get people to tune in on Dynamite …

I don’t write stuff [down ahead of time], I just talk. That’s one of the biggest things that’s missing from pro wrestling. It’s letting people go out there and talk if they know what they’re doing. It can be magic.”

Punk also gave his thoughts about the recent rumors and reports of his backstage issues with Page.

“It’s one side of the story. My locker room is never closed. It’s always open. Anybody who wants to DM [Dave] Meltzer some bulls— can come talk to me about it. It’s not macho, stupid bulls—. I’m an adult. Come talk with me.”

Punk also gave his thoughts on his feelings about his current creative direction in AEW.

“Yes, 100%. You try not to put too much stock in internet rumors. But for AEW, I definitely think that’s part of our audience. Twitter’s not real life, though. On top of that, a lie makes its way around the world twice before the truth puts his boots on or gets out of bed.

If I addressed every rumor, I’d be here all day. I love AEW. It’s not a competition of who loves it more or who’s the heart and soul, or who’s this and who’s that. AEW allowed me a second chance to do what I do best, and that’s professionally wrestle.”

Tony Khan Comments on CM Punk “Unresolved Anger” Towards Hangman Page

A recent episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast had AEW CEO Tony Khan as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts about Punk’s recent unscripted promo digs at Hangman Adam Page.

“It’s unresolved anger, I think, from the world title match at Double or Nothing and we had not really tied up all those issues. CM Punk made one appearance to wrestle after Double or Nothing and it was immediately after that he got injured and was forced to step away. There was clearly some stuff that never got resolved at Double or Nothing. Then, immediately, jumped into somebody who has challenged him, in not a type of match we’ve ever had in AEW before. We’ve had interim championships established, but we’ve never had an Interim World Champion or an Undisputed World Championship match like this.”
