Road Dogg Comments on WWE Never Viewing NXT as Competition to AEW

A recent episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast had former WWE producer and writer Brian “Road Dogg” James as the guest. One of the topics discussed included James’ thoughts on WWE never viewed their NXT brand as being in competition with AEW. James also claimed that NXT never lost to AEW in head-to-head competition due to NXT only being considered as a developmental brand.

“This is how I look at that. I’m trying to calm down a little before I react or respond. I don’t think NXT lost the head-to-head battle. I don’t think it was ever meant to. I think things got out of hand a little bit and USA agreed to a deal for NXT and Vince (McMahon) wanted that to be what it is now. He wanted it to be a total tryout thing. ‘Put these people on TV, we’ll see if they stick, and we’ll get them up here.’ Hunter has a different philosophy. ‘Train them, make sure they’re good to go before you put them on TV.’ It’s two totally different philosophies. Speaking from NXT, and I say this from sitting in every meeting when it was Black & Gold and writing, producing, and directing, we never once thought we were competing with those guys. We looked at ourselves as a developmental program. I hope for AEW they weren’t thinking that beating a developmental program was a notch in their belt because it was people nobody had ever heard of on a Tuesday night against Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley. I always thought that was apples and oranges and you can tell I take I t personally because I worked there. Of course, we wanted to beat them, but we never thought we were in competition or had to write for competition. We just wrote the best show we could,

Lex Luger Comments on Potential Future Induction into WWE Hall of Fame

Sports Illustrated held a recent interview with Lex Luger. One of the topics discussed included Luger providing an update on his current health status.

“It’s mind-boggling. I’m in phenomenal health. Other than my mobility issues from my spinal cord issue, I’m very healthy, and that’s a miracle of God after what I put my body through. I usually use a wheelchair or a walker, but I can walk some.

I have great mobility; I drive. But you know how your power will go out for a moment during a storm? That can happen to me, and I’m on the floor before I know it. So I take a lot of precautions. I live totally independently, which wasn’t supposed to happen. I don’t look the same because I don’t hit the weights like I used to, but I’m healthy.”

Luger also stated that he would consider the possibility of coming out of his wheelchair and walking to the stage if WWE were to ever induct him into their Hall of Fame while he was still alive.

“I might pop out of the chair for that. I would take that chance if that moment comes. That honor would be the cherry on top of my career.”
