WWE: Daniel Bryan Status Update, Money in the Bank Match Producers, Sep. 17th SmackDown Update

Daniel Bryan WWE Status Update

As noted before, Daniel Bryan’s contract with WWE expired at the end of this past April.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that the current status of contract talks between Bryan and WWE is currently not known. Johnson reported that within WWE, there has not been any recent talks over Bryan returning nor is his name listed on the company’s internal roster.

Johnson reported that some within the company currently feel that the lack of action by WWE likely means Bryan will eventually sign a deal with AEW.

Johnson also reported that Bryan’s name was not among the talent listed in a recent internal list put together for talent merchandise plans for 2021-2022. Bryan reportedly is also not currently planned to be among any future Mattel action figure wave releases.

September 17th SmackDown Show Reportedly Taking Place in Nashville

As noted before, WWE recently cancelled their plans for the September 17th episode of Friday Night SmackDown to take place at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that the September 17th episode of SmackDown is currently expected to now take place at the Thompson-Boiling Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. An official announcement regarding the change in location and venue is also currently expected to be made soon.

The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported that the reason for the change in location was due to very poor ticket sales. WWE reportedly had only sold around 1,700 tickets for the show prior to its cancellation. The State Farm Arena reportedly has a capacity of around 21,000 for events.
