Top UFC Star Fails Drug Test, UFN 17 Rating, Diaz/Shamrock Fight

As noted earlier on MMAScoops.com, Jon “War Machine” Koppenhaver was arrested over the weekend on after punching security guards at Vegas night club, Krave. The UFC “Ultimate Fighter: Season 6” star was picked up by Las Vegas PD for misdemeanor battery on Saturday morning after allegedly getting into a fight at Krave nightclub. Cops told TMZ.com that security at Krave was escorting War Machine out of the club after a little brouhaha — when he allegedly turned on security and starting punching them. Security made a citizens arrest until Las Vegas PD could show up.

MMAScoops.com is reporting that former number one welterweight contender, Karo Parisyan, has tested positive for several painkillers, including Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone and Oxymorphone, following his controversial split decision win over Dong Hyun “Stun Gun” Kim at UFC 94: “St. Pierre vs. Penn 2” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Jan. 31.

Spike TV announced today that last Saturday night’s UFC Fight Night 17: “Lauzon vs. Stephens” did a solid 1.3 rating and averaged 1.7 million viewers. MMAScoops.com reports that the 2-hour broadcast peaked with a 1.51 rating and two million viewers for the main event between Joe Lauzon and Jeremy Stephens.

During a media conference call this afternoon, it was announced that Frank Shamrock will face Nick Diaz in the main event of Strikeforce’s April 11th show. It will be the company’s first event on the Showtime cable network.

Speaking of Strikeforce, MMAScoops.com is reporting that the company has signed top female MMA fighter Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos. Sherdog.com reports Cyborg signed an exclusive four-fight deal with the company and had to cancel a previously scheduled fight with another promotion to get the deal. Strikeforce is trying to sign Gina Corano for a fight with Cyborg on April 11th.
