As reported earlier, Billy Corgan spoke with Busted Open Radio today talking about the status of TNA and its fate. Busted Open has posted the audio online and you can listen to it below, as well as read some highlights:
On TNA’s status: “It’s reached a point where it’s going to have a transformational moment. Whatever’s going to happen this week or this weekend or whatever, is going to for sure – and this is not a wrestling angle – it is definitely going to change the direction of the company forever. Does that mean the company ends, does that mean the company begins a new era, does that I still cannot see? Obviously I am very much on the side and very much invested that the company would continue.”
On reports of TNA’s current precarious situation: “I would caution people — because look. I am a fan. We all read the dirt sheets and stuff like that, and certainly the people that you mentioned — their word and their sources carry a lot of weight in the business. But I would ask everyone to step back and think for a second about all the talent on this roster and all the people that work behind the scenes, who are sort of hanging in the balance here and don’t really know what’s going to happen. And so we have to very sensitive to what that means, because at the end of the day I am working very hard to acquire a majority share of this company and I plan on carrying this company forward.”
On Pop TV’s commitment to a new ownership group: “I was just in L.A. and I just met with the new head — the new vice president of programming and Brad Schwartz, the president of POP TV. I just had a meeting with them, literally a week ago, and got a very very firm and very complimentary vote of support that as long as this goes the way that I want it to go, they feel very very strong. They’re very encouraged, they’ve seen growth. They’ve seen the social reaction sort of growing, they’ve seen the sort of…the bubbling under. Which, you know…a year ago, could anyone have predicted that this company would be on the verge of a creative turnaround? It’s been hard work and I give all the credit in the world not only to the roster, but all the people who work, who bust their ass.”
On Bound For Glory’s fate: “Well, let’s take a step back. The last three rounds of taping, I’ve had to step in at literally the last minute — like literally, the ink is drying as we’re going to the ring kind of thing. So I’m used to being in this situation, so I remain very very optimistic that a solution can be reached. It is not, at the end of the day, up to me. I have done everything I can do to create a scenario to go forward. Obviously, I’ve talked about it publicly but privately I’ve had to arrange a lot of things, including the financing. As I said on one of my Facebook posts, I am the financer. I have no investors, this is completely out of my own…my own pile. So I’m committed…I’m charging forward on my own initiative. So, having been through this the last three rounds, I still remain very optimistic that come Sunday I will be standing in the ring putting over what’s about to happen. I will be in Orlando come rain or shine. I can’t speak for everybody else at this particular moment, but I will be in Orlando this Sunday.”
