— Gilberto Melendez (known to wrestling fans as Gypsy Joe) passed away at the age of 82. He had been sick for some time, and his passing was said to not be a surprise. Joe worked pretty much every where; for the WWWF, Puerto Rico, Memphis, Stampede Wrestling, W*ING and even Tajiri’s SMASH promotion in 2010. — It seems there’s another wrinkle in the former WWE Superstar Jesse Ventura’s legal case against Chris Kyle. According to a report by PWInsider, the U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned the $1.8 million verdict in Jessica Ventura’s defamation lawsuit against the estate of late American Sniper author Chris Kyle.
The defamation case was over an altercation with Ventura described in Kyle’s book. Ventura claimed the incident never happened. In 2014, the jury ruled in Ventura’s favor, and he was reportedly awarded $1.8 million.
Kyle’s widow, Tara Kyle, appealed the judgment. The court on a 2-1 vote through out $1.35 million of the verdict that Ventura was awarded for “unjust enrichment.” The District Court was ordered to conduct a new trial to determine if the $500,00 defamation judgment in favor of Ventura is valid.
