Advertising For A Wrestling Event At Citi Field Stadium Pulled

UPDATE x 2: Much of the advertising for the Legends of Wrestling event this June at The New York Mets’ Citi Field Stadium was pulled overnight. Many of the names and publicity photos being used were WWE-owned materials, and the feeling is that WWE sent a cease and desist order to the promotion. There was reportedly unhappiness from the WWE side, because some of the names being used will be appearing in the same market for WWE at Summerslam & AXXESS shortly after the Legends of Wrestling event.

UPDATE: The first ever live wrestling event at the New York Mets’ Citi Field has been revealed. It will be a “Legends of Wrestling” event on June 7. The event begins at 3 PM and features Ric Flair, Bill Goldberg, Bret Hart and more. The plan is for the legends to sign autographs at the stadium, followed by six matches on the field.

ORIGINAL: The home of the New York Mets is set to host wrestling this year, the first time in its six year existence. Citi Field posted the following to its Twitter account, noting that they will host professional wrestling for the first time since it opened in 2009:

While Citi Field has not previously hosted professional wrestling, Shea Stadium–its predecessor–hosted many WWF events back in the day and the Mets’ minor-league affiliate, the Brooklyn Cyclones, have hosted TNA and ROH shows in the past.
