Backstage Update – Alberto Del Rio To Lucha Underground?

As previously reported, following his settlement with WWE, Alberto Del Rio’s non-compete clause was dropped, and he is now free to pursue other wrestling bookings outside of the WWE. Del Rio has already started working with AAA, and has also made appearances on Puerto Rico and Japan.

Del Rio had previously stated that he would possibly work with the Lucha Underground promotion. Lucha Underground has a set of tapings scheduled for January 17th, which could be the date Del Rio makes his debut.

ORIGINAL: Here are some additional details on the settlement that was reached between WWE and Alberto Del Rio with regards to the non-compete clause in his WWE contract. Del Rio is currently with AAA.

Both sides came to agreement on several terms. Del Rio agreed not to sue the WWE and agreed to not make any more negative comments toward WWE in the media. This would include Del Rio’s allegations of racism in the company.

In exchange, WWE reportedly gave Del Rio a financial settlement. His non-compete clause was dropped, and he is now free to pursue other wrestling bookings outside of the WWE. The settlement apparently came about at the last minute. The report indicates that WWE at one point might have been asked to issue an apology for the allegedly racist comments made by company employees.

Del Rio reportedly agreed to parts of the written settlement agreement with regards to the financial issues and his non-compete clause, but he did not push for WWE issuing an apology.

The report goes on to state that WWE wanted the issue taken care out of concern for their Hispanic audience. WWE did not want to tied to any claims of racism against Hispanics.
