UPDATE: Shawn Michaels recently spoke with the LA Times, here are the highlights…
Did He & Triple H Know DX Was Special When It First Started?: “Actually, never. I’m still waiting for him to come around. He’s been hanging on my coattails for 20 years! Just kidding, obviously. It’s one of those things where the Hunter Hearst Helmsley character that he was portraying at the time, a rich, snobbish character, was totally opposite of the way he is. We would ride in the car together and say “My goodness if we could just bring who we are in the car out on TV.” We finally convinced the powers that be to give us a chance. We just went out there and hammed it up, because we naturally bring that out of each other. The humor was sophomoric, but that’s who we were back then. We were bad guys, but after a while it got to a point where people started enjoying it. The great thing about live events is you get an instant reaction, and that was very encouraging for us. People in the back wanted to reel us in, and we wanted to keep going.”
On DX vs. The Four Horsemen: “They are different in the respect that the Horsemen were classier, more high-brow. The Four Horsemen were limousines and Lear Jets, while DX was trailer parks and outhouses. One was white trash, one was upper crust. I always saw DX and the NWO as the natural rivals at the time.”
On Dream Opponents: “Ricky Steamboat. I would love to have gotten into it with Harley Race. He was such a good wrestler and rough and tough. We wrestled at the same time but never each other. And wrestling Sting would have been something I would have enjoyed. That would have been great at the box office. But if I had to pick, it would be Steamboat or Race.”
ORIGINAL: The Miami Herald has posted some details from a recent conference call with Shawn Michaels to promote the new WWE 2K15 Rivalries mode. The call took place on Monday and HBK discussed the game and his rivalry with Triple H. HBK said:
“To be four years removed and have the opportunity to be a major part of WWE 2K15 as one of the 2K Showcase rivalries with Triple H is very exciting for me. It was an amazing return. My return from a four-year absence in 2002 and to have all that chronicled now in a videogame is nothing short of pretty cool for a guy that hasn’t been doing it for a while. I’m excited about that.
No secret he (Triple H) and I are extremely close. We’ve gone full circle. That’s something I think this rivalry is going to show. We came back after the four year absence and were going to get DX back together. It was something everybody wanted the feel-good moment. Then of course he turned on me like the rabid dog he is. The amazing thing to me and thing I always enjoy about that rivalry is it was two years. That is a hard to do. There is so much that happened in that two years, and these people are going to get to play through every aspect of it’s going to be amazing what folks are going to be able to do in this game.”
