As noted before, Charlotte Flair and current WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton were involved in an incident at this past Friday’s WWE SmackDown show in Chicago, Illinois. This incident revolved around their promo segment going very off script over Stratton bringing up Flair’s personal life issues including her history of failed marriages and Flair responding back implying Ludwig Kaiser was cheating on Stratton.
Figthful Select reported that their sources stated that the consensus among most of those backstage was that Flair went off script first with her “nepo queen” line. It was reported that the general feeling among a number of people backstage was of the belief of when Flair mocked Stratton’s voice, that is when Stratton had to fight back and made it personal with her comments about Flair’s failed marriages. Those spoken to stated that Stratton’s comments about Flair’s personal were not well advised.
It was reported that Flair’s line about Stratton’s real-life boyfriend Ludwig Kaiser being in her DMs and Stratton’s line about Flair’s divorces were stuff that was not previously cleared for their promo segment.
It was also reported that Flair addressing the boos from the live crowd was also not scripted and instead were ad-libbed but this was something that did not get any heat from anyone backstage. Flair stopping her promo and acknowledging the heat from fans reportedly was considered to be a “run of the mill” type moment.
It was also reported that there was heat on both Stratton and Flair over their segment and the general feeling was their segment on the show was considered a “wreck.” It was also reported it is still not known if there were issues between Flair and Stratton backstage after the segment.
It was also reported that the general reaction backstage over the segment was one of a level of confusion hitting when Flair mocked Stratton’s voice and things got personal between the two.
In a recent interview with the Busted Open Radio podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair responded to Stratton using personal comments towards his daughter Charlotte during their segment due to it bringing up very sensitive issues.
“I have an opinion, but I don’t really want to voice it. I can say this, it’s very sensitive. I didn’t like it, but wrestling is wrestling. I hate when they use me, but Charlotte said it right, you think that’s the first time hearing my name? I want to clarify this. She is ten times the athlete that I am. So much better of a worker than I ever was. I can’t do half the things that she does. It’s not like she’s 5’2” and 103 pounds. She’s 5’11 and weighs 145 pounds. She works so hard. Undertaker said it best, ‘The Queen came back and regained her crown.’ She deserves it. She’ll be the best worker in the business, female, until the day she decides to retire.”
Flair also gave his thoughts about family-related stuff being the only thing that was off limits for his promos with others during his wrestling career.
“We never talked about each other’s families. Does that make sense? We were in the entertainment business. I mean, you know, Terry (Funk) putting that bag over my head, we almost lost TV…
It never happened (comments like Stratton & Charlotte said to each other). I’m 0-4. But there’s a reason I’m 0-4 and it’s because when you’re gone six months at a time — people keep saying, ‘Why’d you get married when you’re gone?’”
