Samoa Joe Comments on Origin of His Walk Away “Nope” Spot Started as a Gag
A recent episode of the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast featured Samoa Joe as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Joe’s thoughts about the origin of his walk away “Nope” spot during matches.
“Well, it started out as a gag, and it was a house show gag where I’d work Christopher Daniels and at some point I would call a cross body or something and I’d walk away from it. And Chris, to his credit, every time I did it, as he’s diving here he’s like, you son of a bitch, you dirty bastard, he would always like cursed little phrase at me as he fell to his doom. So it kind of started out as that, and then I remember I did it to him, and then him and AJ [Styles] began requesting it on people, like, Oh, you got to get him with the walk away today. Come on, dude, it’ll be hilarious. You got to get him with it. So then it became kind of a bit when I started showing up on TV.”

Will Ospreay recently reflected on Twitter about his praise of the Philadelphia crowd for the energy they brought throughout this past Sunday’s AEW Dynasty 2025 event. Ospreay stated “I wanna say thank you so much to the fans in Philly! Last night was such a LONG show with EVERYONE leaving it all out from the opener to the main We’d all understand if you were exhausted but kept that energy throughout the whole night. Grateful to everyone in that building!!“
In a recent interview with the Talk Is Jericho podcast, Harley Cameron gave her thoughts about RJ City being the person who came up with the name for her new finishing move called “Her Finishing Move.” Cameron stated “I have to give credit to RJ City for that. He suggested it and I was like, ‘Ehhh, I don’t know.’ Then I warmed up to it. I was like, ‘It’s kind of perfect.’ It’s very fitting for me. The hardest thing for me was, it’s important to, with the kind of persona I have, I want to be entertaining and I’m very humorous with my delivery, but also you want to make sure that you don’t get typecast in that respect. The way I see around it is, you can be entertaining and funny, you can make people laugh and you can have things like calling your finishing move, ‘Her Finishing Move,’ but when it’s go time, it’s go time. That is the way to be cohesive with it all. I’m always happy to joke around and do something silly or be entertaining, but I also like to kick ass. As long as you’re not getting out there and being the class clown in the ring, there is a way to make it work and that’s what I’m focusing on doing. Still being myself, but making sure when I’m out there, I’m bringing it and keeping up with the best of them. It’s different to be doing stuff that I know other people aren’t doing because of the humor stuff, I know a lot of people don’t like. As long as you bring it. The reality is, Harley Cameron, in general, loves to joke around and be entertaining and humorous, but she’s also a smart girl. I have depth to me, but the reality is, I enjoy making people laugh.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with the New York Post, Ricochet gave his thoughts about his recent storyline feud with Swerve Strickland in AEW. Ricochet stated “I guess if the story is you’re just going to be cheating the whole time, then yeah, great story. You have Nana out there the whole time trying to steal my jacket. So I’m distracted there. You have, I don’t know whether it was Swerve or whether it was Nana or whatever, but they had celebrities in the crowd literally yelling at me the whole time. So I couldn’t concentrate there either. Then you probably have Tony Schiavone on commentary saying something negative. So I have to think about that too. So it’s just, it was like just one after another of complete distraction on Swerve’s side for me. So, I mean, I guess if the story for Swerve is, I mean, everyone cheers for him, but he really is just cheating the whole time, and then at the end with Nana coming back out and I thought i had it won and then again, it just didn’t go my way. But like I said, I was out there by myself. I had nobody out there. No one was, yelling at Swerve the whole time. But that match, I mean, I’m glad that it showed that part, but it also showed that I and before have also showed that I can beat Swerve and I have beaten Swerve and that this was purely just a misjudgment of I didn’t plan enough for this match. I should have planned for Nana and for everybody else trying to distract me, and that’s my fault.“
