Kurt Angle Comments on Being “Very Grateful” Fans Dropping “Perc Angle” Nickname for Him

As noted before, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle had revealed in an interview with Chris Van Vliet this past January that the online “Perc Angle” nickname to describe his career with TNA Wrestling actually hurts his feelings to be called it.

Bro Bible held a recent interview with Angle. One of the topics discussed included Angle’s thoughts about him being very grateful for wrestling fans dropping the “Perc Angle” nickname for him.

“Thank you so much. I was really pleasantly surprised that they responded that way. It makes me know that I have true fans out there that really enjoyed my career and loved me for what I did. I’m just grateful that they’re going to drop the name Perk Angle. It reminds me of a dark time in my life, and it’s something that I don’t want to have to deal with it anymore. I dealt with it already, and it’s behind me. Hearing Perc Angle just makes me think I’m known for that. It was not cool. I’m just glad that they’re now using Peak Angle, instead I’m very grateful for that.”

In a recent interview with the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, ECW legend and WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam gave his thoughts about the future of his wrestling career. RVD stated “I don’t [think I am], and I don’t think I will [retire]. That’s how I feel right now. I feel like even if I don’t take wrestling bookings anymore, I don’t think I’ll make a big deal out of retirement. Because when wrestlers retire and they end up coming back and wrestling anyway. ‘No, I want one more match.’ For me, that is completely eating up the credibility that I had in wrestling retirement matches. I doubt that I’ll ever feel like, ‘No, I’m going to be different. I never want to wrestle right now. I’m done.’ I just see me is just going with the flow. And someday, when you say, are you still wrestling? I might say, It’s been six years, and then I might have a match. I’ve always said also I want to price myself out and not wear myself and my value down. A lot of my peers, they were worth so much in their prime, and then they are not worth as much, can’t get booked as much, so they come down and compromise, and that has a cycle effect where they are worth less. But I’m not gonna do that, I’d rather have less people afford me until I don’t wrestle that way instead of wrestling myself into a grave and my last match was $5.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with the Cafe de Rene with Rene Dupree podcast, All Japan Pro Wrestling talent Davey Boy Smith Jr. revealed that he recently underwent surgery to fix his eyes from cataracts issues. Smith Jr. stated “I came back home in January from a really successful trip, and I somehow got cataracts in my eyes from the 20 years of those shitty tanning beds. Hopefully people can learn from that. But I had seen people not using the glasses…I didn’t like the lines [it would leave] around your eyes when you go tanning, so a lot of times, I just put a towel on, and the last six months or so, I was using the old tanning beds over in Japan, you gotta lay in them for 30-40 minutes, and they’re the old UV, they’re lousy bulbs. So I had to get the surgery, and both eyes, it was weird. It was like it just sort of came on. It was like my body knew that I had three months off, and I was like, let’s get this taken care of. One thing that I can say is that it cost me about fourteen grand and I had to pay it. For people, with wrestlers, it’s always like, learn from this guy, don’t do this. Hopefully, they learn from me and yourself and your dad to save your money because you don’t know when stuff like that will happen. Luckily, I had the money to pay for it.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
