FSW Promoter Joe DeFalco Comments on Chris Bey Helped Put Together His Benefit Show & CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, & TJ Wilson Had Wanted to Work the Show

As noted before, Chris Bey has been out of action for TNA Wrestling since this past October due to a neck injury and surgery. Future Stars of Wrestling will be holding a benefit show for Bey called Mecca X: Beynefit for Bey on March 23rd at the FSW Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A recent episode of Fightful’s In The Weeds podcast featured FSW promoter Joe DeFalco as the guest. One of the topics discussed included DeFalco announcing that Bey will be making an appearance at the upcoming event and how Bey has helped put together the show.

“Initially, when we planned on doing it in January, there was no thought in my head about Chris because he had not progressed at all. He didn’t come back to Vegas until almost Christmas time. At that point, there had been very little progress. For the January show, my thought process was Chris was probably not going to be there. Miraculously, over the next month, the progress had been tremendous. Yes, Chris will be at the show. Spoiler alert, he probably won’t come out until late, probably the main event, after the main event possibly. Chris is 100% behind it. I reached out to Chris to say, ‘Give me your thoughts on this stuff.’ He had some ideas about the battle royal and putting different people in different spot. I wouldn’t say he had a ton, but he was definitely involved in some of the matches you’re going to see. They are Chris Bey ideas.”

DeFalco also gave his thoughts about how a few WWE talents wanted to work at the upcoming show in support of Bey but were not able to do so due to schedule issues with WWE’s current European tour.

“Rey Mysterio was going to work the show, which was crazy to me. He wanted to work. He was trying to tag team with TJ Wilson, who hasn’t wrestled in forever, and Kevin [Karrion Kross] reached out and TJ was like, ‘Don’t worry about it. I won’t do any high flying stuff. I would just do mat stuff.’ He was talking about teaming with Rey Mysterio to wrestle Dominik [Mysterio] and Kross in the main event. That became, ‘Hold on, we have the European tour.’ That kind of put the kibosh on that. Bey was talking to CM Punk yesterday and Punk was like, ‘If we weren’t on this tour, I would have worked the show.’ If somebody would have told us, I would have moved it a week later.”

DeFalco also clarified that Punk wanted tothere to support Bey and not necessarily work at the event.

In a new ROH Timelines video released by AEW and Ring of Honor, Eddie Kingston paid his tribute to Homicide ahead of his retirement match on Thursday. Kingston stated “First off, let me be a bit of a wise ass. I hope they put up Homicide’s feud with Steve Corino, his feud with Colt Cabana, his feud with Samoa Joe, his feud with Bryan Danielson — You see how I keep saying feud? Homicide, when you messed with him, it wasn’t just one match, even though he had great one[s] with Jamie Nobile and AJ Styles. When Homicide got in there, he showed all New Yorkers that anybody can do it. If they put their mind to it, if they put their heart into it and their soul into this sport, then everybody can do it. When he went in there? He also fought like a New Yorker. Yeah, I’m a little biased. Also, I’m biased because I want people to know this man Homicide because he inspired so many of us and made many of us. You can ask Samoa Joe, you could ask Bryan, you can ask Cabana, you can ask everybody who was either a featured talent or a future world champion, they all had to go through Homicide. The last thing that makes me super biased, I know he’s going to hate this, but he’s not just my mentor, he’s really a guardian angel for me. He always calls at the right time. He never knows why, but he always goes, ‘I have a feeling, I gotta call you.’ He always calls at the right time. So, I want everyone to enjoy this Best Of because I watch all his matches just as much as I watched Terry Funk, just as much as I watched Kawasaki and Kobashi and Taue and Masawa and the Three Musketeers of New Japan and so on, I can go on forever. Homicide is always up there, so, enjoy it. Respect it. Happy retirement. Look, we both love Terry Funk so that retirement is not real. But, for now, happy retirement and thank you from everybody. Thank you.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with Sportskeeda’s WrestleBinge podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler provided an update on his current health status. Lawler stated “I feel great. And they said it takes about a year to get that back to normal. And then my left knee needs to be replaced too, but I’m going to wait a while on that one.” Lawler also stated the effects from his stroke in 2023 still impact his life every day. Lawler stated “Well, that’s something that’s here constantly every day. I want to say gotten over – I haven’t gotten over [it] because the effects of the stroke, they’re always there. I mean, my whole right side of my body is damaged. I can’t really write too good. I can’t draw worth a darn, but I can still sign an autograph, thank goodness. But other than that, I feel fine.” (Transcript h/t: F4WOnline.com)
