More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for March 12th

The March 12th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a large increase in key demographic rankings and a small increase in overall viewership and key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 628,000 viewers and a 0.16 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was #12 place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s increases this week was due to the large increases from their younger key demographic viewership and older male key demographic viewership groups, which were up 80% and 22.5% respectively compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the large decline from their older female key demographic viewership group, which was down 26.7% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that an interesting pattern with both this show and recent shows of late is that AEW has been having more younger female key demographic viewers than younger male key demographic viewers for their shows. Meltzer also reported that the viewership on MAX for the show is currently not known. AEW’s lead-in programming Big Bang Theory reportedly drew 921,000 viewers and a 0.11 rating.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Boston Celtics drew 1,703,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of California vs. Stanford drew 535,000 viewers on ESPN2, the NHL game of Buffalor Sabres vs. Detroit Red Wings drew 254,000 viewers on TNT, Survivor drew 4,631,000 viewers on CBS, Expedition X drew 713,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, The Challenge drew 304,000 viewers on MTV, Sistas Series drew 699,000 viewers on BET, and Summer House drew 477,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 221,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 43,000 viewers (up 65.4%), Females 18-34 had 47,000 viewers (up 95.8%), Males 35-49 had 109,000 viewers (up 22.5%), and Females 35-49 had 22,000 viewers (down 26.7%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 68.8% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 21.6% in overall viewership and down 37.7% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 key demographic viewership was down 28.6% compared to the same week last year. Meltzer also reported that one main reason for the large declines is due to the unknown key demographic viewership migration on MAX compared to last year’s show.
