Bishop Dyer (Baron Corbin) on His Release from WWE, His New “Nomad” Character, & Future of His Wrestling Career

A recent episode of The Ariel Helwani Show featured Bishop Dyer, former Baron Corbin in WWE, as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Dyer’s thoughts about his release from WWE in November of 2024 and how it made him feel a bit angry over it.

“Part of me is angry—if we’re being realistic, part of me is angry that I got let go because, again, I’ve always done everything that’s expected of me and done it well. And I was getting great reactions on the shows.

I was getting fantastic reactions and doing great matches. I reinvented myself, and Hunter told me, ‘Great job reinventing yourself, you should really be proud.’ And I got let go.

The first thought that comes to mind is, alright, well, I’m going to become bigger and better, and then when you call me to come back, I’m going to tell you to stick it. That’s kind of the motivation for me at the moment.

And granted, six months from now, hopefully all that irritation and anger goes away, but I think that’s what set Cody [Rhodes] off for success. Cody was like, alright, middle fingers, I’ll show you what I can do—and then he did it. His first match with AEW, he smashes Hunter’s chair, and then Hunter’s the guy that calls and wants to bring him back. Like, that’s the cool thing about the wrestling world.”

Dyer also gave his thoughts about his new “Nomad” character for his post-WWE wrestling career and his reason for changing his ring name to “Bishop Dyer.”

“I didn’t feel like Tom Pestock was the greatest fight name. It didn’t have an umph to it like I wanted. So that’s why we went with the new name. And “Nomad,” because now, as we talked, I’m not under contract, I can go wherever. Pick and choose where I want to go. As a nomad would, I’m just kind of floating, going all over. I’d love to get like, four different championships to travel the world with … Having the ability to go where I please when I want is awesome.”

Dyer also gave his thoughts about the future of his wrestling career and revealed that he recently signed with Major League Wrestling to work a few shows for the company.

“I have goals. I want to continue to wrestle, obviously. I want to go to Japan and wrestle. I’m excited for other shows that I’m doing with new talent that I’ve never been around. MLW is gonna be amazing. What they’re doing is amazing, and I get to be a part of that, and I’m going to do several shows with them.”

Dyer also gave his thoughts about MLW and him being excited to get to work for the company.

“Oh, I’m so excited to be a part of MLW. They are doing some amazing things. They just want to grow and be a massive entity in this world. That’s the most exciting thing about wrestling right now, it’s so hot all over, at all levels. So when you’re getting MLW bringing in talent, they’ve got major stars. I’m going out there, and they are going to do some amazing things. Our venue that we were supposed to do next month, they already had to upgrade the honey because it sold out, so they’re moving to a bigger venue. So that speaks volumes on what they’re doing in terms of putting on a show and bringing stars in. For me, I’ve already committed to a few shows with them, so it’s not a one-stop shop. We’re going to do a few, and hopefully continue on. I mean, I would love to hold the MLW Championship.”
