Prior to Kenny Omega’s in-ring return from diverticulitis this past January, New Japan Pro Wrestling had released a video this past October featuring Omega and Hiroshi Tanahashi and teasing them teaming up in a match at Wrestle Dynasty.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that there were never any actual plans for Omega and Tanahashi to work a match together at Wrestle Dynasty despite the video tease.

Those spoken to within AEW reportedly stated that AEW’s creative team never had any formal discussions regarding such plans at the time.

Those spoken to within NJPW reportedly also confirmed that there was never any actual plan in place by NJPW officials for Omega and Tanahashi to team up or face off in a match at the event. Those same sources reportedly stated that the video was simply edited in a way that fueled speculation and excitement from fans for their Wrestle Dynasty event.
