AEW Revolution 2025 Post-Show Media Scrum: Swerve Strickland Suffered Ruptured Eardrum Injury, Big Boom AJ & Costco Guys Signed to AEW, Tony Khan on Being “In the Weeds” for Recent AEW Shows, Decision to Not Have Mariah May vs. Toni Storm Main Event Revolution

AEW held a media scrum following Sunday’s Revolution 2025 event at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.

Some of the notable highlights included:

  • During his portion of the media call, Swerve Strickland stated that he had suffered a ruptured eardrum injury during his match against Ricochet on the show.
  • On the topic of a potential second AEW World Championship reign, Strickland stated that it takes a special crop of talent of both men and women to reach the World title due to it not being a championship everyone can hol. Strickland stated that they have to raise the bar and that was what he did with his first reign. Strickland stated that his second reign it will be about silencing the doubters.
  • On the topic of his AEW World Championship #1 Contender’s match with Ricochet, Strickland stated that this was the first time in AEW that two Black men fought for the number one contendership.
  • During his portion of the media call, Big Boom AJ stated that he, Big Justice, and The Rizzler are all currently signed to deals with AEW. AJ revealed it during a question about him potentially getting deeper into wrestling and joining AEW’s roster. AJ stated “How much deeper does everybody want me to get? I thought I was deep. [Laughs]. Yes, I am officially with AEW right now. I’m undefeated. I am under contract right now, as is Big Justice and The Rizzler. We are going to be here for a while. I know there are some names on the AEW roster that I might be gunning for. Some guys out there who don’t quite believe in what I believe in; the happiness, the positivity, the boom. You never know how deep this thing is going to go.
  • On the topic of potential music plans, AJ stated that he currently has some plans in the works including collaborating with Swerve Strickland. AJ stated “Swerve and I have talked about doing something together. You’d love to see Swerve with Big Justice and Big Boom AJ? You never know, that could be coming out soon, too.
  • During his portion of the media call, AEW CEO Tony Khan stated that the early pay-per-view buys numbers for Revolution look good.
  • On the topic of the recent report about him being more “into the weeds” for creative with AEW’s recent string of shows, Khan stated that he had read that report and compared it to him being more involved with the booking leading to the first Revolution event in 2020. Khan stated that sometimes he is more detail oriented with some shows compared to others. Khan also stated that he thought the buzz was there for this show just like there was five years ago.
  • On the topic of the Mariah May and “Timeless” Toni Storm’s “Hollywood Ending” Falls Count Anywhere match for the AEW Women’s World Championship and not having it be the main event for show, Khan stated “I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Both are main event quality wrestlers. With AEW Grand Slam Australia, I thought we put together a great show with great moments and for where we were going next, I thought it made a lot of sense, and for where we had been I felt it was a fantastic main event. Tonight, they delivered and it was absolutely fantastic, great match. I really believed in it and I really believed in the story. Absolutely, that is a match capable of main eventing, just like in Australia. Hindsight is always 20/20, but to me, putting it back together and looking back, [AEW Revolution] is one of my all time favorite shows. Toni Storm was in no condition to come up here, she lost a lot of blood. I thought it was a great moment to Swerve to have that moment and have the crowd come back and do the “Whose House? Swerve’s House.’ They didn’t know they would see him again. It was a big reaction and the crowd got behind Swerve at end, which is never a surprise. Start to finish, it was a great show. That would be a great main event and I also thought, in particular, there were a lot of matches that could have been the main event, including any of the last four. That’s why I called it a big closing four. Knowing that Swerve was waiting in the wings and he’s the number one contender, I had a feeling the crowd would get behind seeing Swerve at the end of the show.
  • On the topic of the event itself, Khan stated that Sunday’s show was “start to finish” the best show that they’ve had.
  • Khan also stated that Revolution 2025 was one of the harder-hitting shows they have done, and some people are banged up following it. Khan also stated that he was going to check with medical to see who would be cleared for this week’s Dynamite and Collision shows.
