AEW CEO Tony Khan held a media scrum on Thursday to promote this Sunday’s AEW Revolution 2025 event at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
Some of the notable highlights included:
- On the topic of the status of AEW pay-per-views airing live on MAX and AEW’s new distribution deal with Amazon for Amazon prime Video, Khan stated “Max is still going to be a great home to AEW pay-per-view. It’s not a technology that has been part of the Max service previously, before AEW landed on this great platform. We’re very excited to have AEW TV streaming on Max every week. I can’t wait to have the upcoming AEW pay-per-views there in the future. We have all the past AEW Revolution events streaming now on Max. I look forward to when fans can buy the pay-per-views there. It’s something we all want, and I know they are working on developing that tech in the platform because it’s not something Max has ever offered before. I’m very excited to have all of these great pay-per-view providers. We’ve been working with great providers over the past years, and we still have great experiences working with them. Now, we’ve added a new provider, and it’s one of the largest companies in the world, and that is Amazon.
- Khan continued stating “We’re very excited fans can buy AEW Revolution and future pay-per-views on Prime. To be on one of the largest streaming services to sell our pay-per-views, that’s huge. In the future, we’ll continue with a lot of great providers and Max. Max will be the home for all of AEW in the future, and we’ll continue to work with great media companies. One thing that has been great about Warner Brothers Discovery and Max is the success they’ve had with collaborations. We love collaborating with Warner Brothers Discovery. We look at some of the real successes that have really paid off for Warner Brothers Discovery in streaming, and it’s a lot of great collaborations. I saw recently that the bundle was the least churned, the stickiest bundle in all of streaming, and really the stickiest package in all of streaming is the Disney-Max bundle. That’s exciting to see the company having so much success and that it’s the most successful package in all of streaming. Max will be a great pay-per-view home for us going forward, absolutely.“
- On the topic of the upcoming Mariah May vs. “Timeless” Toni Storm match for the AEW Women’s Championship at Revolution 2025, Khan praised both May and Storm’s work and the evolution of Storm’s character.
- On the topic of a lack of the Face of the Revolution Ladder match for this year’s event, Khan stated that it was about putting the right people in the right situations at the right time. Khan also stated that he is happy with what is going on with the TNT Championship scene right now and with the current card, he felt that doing a Face of the Revolution match wasn’t the right time this year.
- On the topic of the status of a future television deal for Ring of Honor, Khan stated that they have had great conversations domestically and internationally for a potential deal. Khan also stated that he has not been rushing it as he wants to make the best deal possible for ROH. Khan did not give a timetable for a potential deal but stated he is still interested and has been putting time into it.
- On the topic of the quality of AEW’s recent run of shows, Khan stated that he went down a rabbit hole and how he made a promise to himself years ago at New Year’s Eve going into 2020 that he was going to make great television shows and would not be nice anymore in turning down people’s creative ideas. Khan stated that the majority of what you are seeing now is by him and he realized years ago that is what he should be doing. Khan stated that there has been times in the past where he has been too collaborative and part of that process is saying “no” at times.
- On the topic of the recent releases of Malakai Black, Miro, Rey Fenix, and Ricly Starks and if his philosophy regarding talent releases has changed, Khan stated “I do think it’s a case-by-case basis. I think everything is a case-by-case basis, and so much of life is a case-by-case basis. Philosophically, there is a change in what I’ve been doing. It felt like the right thing for the company and everyone involved at this point. That’s the thinking behind that. It’s on a case by case basis and they are all different situations. In this case, they did have similar outcomes. It’s fair to ask why now and why I wouldn’t have done that before. I just decided that’s what I thought was the right thing to do at this point.“
- On the topic of the rumors of AEW not holding production meetings for shows, Khan stated that he meets with several working groups and individuals at several points during event days. Khan stated that this includes production people, producers, coaches, and announcers. Khan also stated that he is constantly looking to do better with communication but that it is a great process for them. Khan also stated that he thought some of the things people read were completely untrue which was why he same some backtracking about it. Khan also stated that he doesn’t think about that anymore and wants to eliminate those kinds of distractions for him and AEW. Khan also stated that he found some of the discourse around it “amusing” and to “consider the source” of it.
