Vince McMahon Sex Trafficking Lawsuit Update – McMahon, John Laurinaitis, & WWE File Motions Opposing Janel Grant’s Amended Lawsuit
As noted before, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit in January of 2024 against former TKO Executive Chairman Vince McMahon accusing McMahon of committing sex trafficking and sexual abuse towards her during her time in the company. Besides McMahon, WWE and former WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis were also named defendants in the lawsuit. Grant recently filed a new amended lawsuit detailing new evidence and claims against McMahon, Laurinaitis, WWE, and others.
Post Wrestling’s John Pollock reported that attorneys for McMahon, Laurinaitis, and WWE all filed motions on Friday before the United States District Court in Connecticut requesting for the court to strike down Grant’s amended lawsuit and complaints based on recent court records.
In McMahon’s filing, McMahon’s attorney Jessica Rosenberg claimed that the amended complaint is “untimely” and is being done in “bad faith.” Rosenberg also accused the plaintiffs of missing deadline to respond to past motions to move the case to arbitration.
In the filing, Rosenberg also accused Grant’s legal team of purposely omitting facts from the original lawsuit complaint and including them in the amended version to “create another press cycle.”
Plaintiff disingenuously claims that “key factual developments” prompted her proposed amendments and constitute good cause to amend. Yet, most of Plaintiff’s proposed amendments comprise years-old allegations purportedly derived from Plaintiff’s devices, records, or recollection (whether real or imagined). These “new” allegations were always known (or conjured) by Plaintiff but were intentionally omitted from the original complaint. The same is true of Plaintiff’s otherwise unjustified decision to deanonymize the names of various high-profile individuals. Plaintiff fails to identify—nor could she—even a single reason for this delay.
The filing also refutes claims made by Grant of her being coerced into signing the NDA deal with McMahon and pointed out that she had accepted the first payment of $1 million and claimed she has never attempted to return it.
Plaintiff accepted and retained $1 million under the Settlement Agreement. She has not attempted to return that $1 million payment to Defendant McMahon. In doing so, she ratified the contract and “lost” “the power to avoid” the Settlement Agreement for “duress [and/or] undue influence.
Rather than comply with the clear terms of the Settlement Agreement, Plaintiff has repeatedly exploited the courts and the media to publicize a false narrative and information contractually required to remain confidential. Permitting additional time to pass unduly prejudices Defendant McMahon and his ability to vindicate himself
Pollock reported that McMahon’s legal team filed their opposition motion first, followed by Laurinaitis’ legal team several hours later and WWE’s legal team afterwards.
