Ricochet Comments on Will Ospreay Being in AEW Playing Role in His Decision to Join AEW
Yahoo Sports’ Uncrowned held a recent interview with Ricochet. One of the topics discussed included Ricochet’s thoughts about Will Ospreay being in AEW and him wanting to show that he is still better than Ospreay being the most attractive reason for his decision to sign with AEW.
“The most attractive thing was to get in there with Will [Ospreay] again, was to show everybody how much better I was than him. That was the most attractive thing to me because I’ve been watching. I’ve seen it. I watched from afar, and I saw everything that he was doing.
[Fans] bring that [NJPW] match up or something me and Will did, and they say that made them watch wrestling. I understand all that again. Having now the opportunity to get back in there with him, but then now show everybody that I am better than him and I always was better than him, that was attractive to me.”
Britt Baker AEW Absence Status Update & Rumor Killer on Plans for Baker vs. Mariah May Feud
Britt Baker has been absent from AEW programming since this past November.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported in a recent Q&A article that his sources stated that Mariah May’s recent name droppings of Baker’s name in interviews with outlets is not meant to be any indication of AEW having creative plans in the works for Baker’s return.
Sapp reported that the reason for May bringing up Baker’s name in recent interviews is simply just her expressing interest in a potential future match between the two.
AEW News & Notes
This past Wednesday’s red carpet premiere event for Netflix’s Cobra Kai series featured Britt Baker among those in attendance. Besides Baker, former WWE talent Sonya Deville also had attended the event.
Peacock recently released a new trailer for the upcoming second season of their Twisted Metal television series. This series features Samoa Joe portraying the physical role of Sweet Tooth.
As noted before, Kamille has been absent from AEW programming since this past November. Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported in a recent Q&A article that his sources stated that his sources stated that the rumors of Kamille and Mercedes Mone having backstage heat issues with each other is not true. Sapp reported that those spoken to stated that Mone was open to working with Kamille to end their storyline split feud but this was something that AEW officials decided against doing.
In a recent fan Q&A session on Twitter, Mercedes Mone responded to a question about which wrestlers she wants to recruit to AEW. Mone stated “If I listed the people I wanted in AEW The other place would sign them 🍵 #aewceo #AEWGrandSlam“
In a recent interview with the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, Chris Jericho gave his thoughts about the rumors of him having the creative power to choose his own opponents and feuds in AEW. Jericho stated “I don’t choose anything. I might have a suggestion, but most of the time it’s Tony coming up with who he wants me to work with. I know for example with Mark Briscoe, both of us wanted to work with each other, and knew we could have some great matches. I loved working with Mark and what a great kind of mini-feud, or I guess it was a feud. It was a couple of months long. So that was something that we both wanted to do and suggested to Tony. But most of the time, this whole thing that started working with Rated FTR, that was Tony’s idea. So yeah, I still work for my boss, and I have never once as far as I can remember in the six years I’ve been in AEW ever said no to something. I might not like something, but I got to try and do my best to make it work or maybe come up with something that maybe is a better idea as long as the boss likes it. If the boss wants to do what he wants to do then that’s my job. So that’s what we do.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with the Battleground Podcast, Dustin Rhodes revealed that he is currently in the process of trying to purchase the rights to his WCW entrance theme song. Rhodes stated “I kind of just want to, I’ve come full circle and I want to be ‘The Natural.’ On my last match, I want my old theme from the WCW days. I’m trying to purchase the rights right now for it because it’s very memorable music.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In the same interview, Dustin Rhodes also gave his thoughts about his interest in potentially working for NWA and winning the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship like his late father Duty and his brother Cody have done before he retires. Rhodes stated “Well, that’s something that I’ve thought about also (going after NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title). At the same time, the NWA of today is not the same as it used to be and I think it’s lost a lot of its prestige. Nothing wrong with NWA, what they’re doing and everything. They’re trying to get their platform going and it’s just changed a lot and it’s different and I think the spark has gone from the, you know, 10 Pounds of Gold. But that is also something that my brother’s had and my dad and it would be a cool, little trios. All three of us to have that, it would be historic and no other family has done that, which would be really cool. So yeah, you never say never, man.” (Transcript h/t: PostWrestling.com)
