Ricochet vs. Swerve Strickland in AEW World Title #1 Contender Match Announced for Revolution 2025

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show also featured one new match announced for the card of AEW Revolution 2025.

This new match announced was an AEW World Championship #1 Contender match of Ricochet vs. Swerve Strickland.

This match was initially setup over recent weeks shows over Ricochet and Strickland’s bad blood issues with each other. During tonight’s show, Strickland and Prince Nana came out to the ring. Strickland talked about this being Swerve’s House and everything he’s done in AEW including becoming the first black man to win the AEW World Championship. After some more words, Swerve stated that he still the best wrestler here and to prove that, he needs some gold around his waist. Strickland then turned his attention towards Ricochet stating that he still has some business to deal with first and Ricochet took something from him and they are not done until he says they are done.

This led to Ricochet’s music playing and him coming out to the stage wearing Nana’s Embassy robe. Ricochet proceeded to give a series of insults towards Strickland, San Diego folk, and San Diego sports as the crowd responded with a chorus of boos and foul mouth chants at him. Ricochet continued stating that he is chasing gold and claimed it is something Strickland won’t do anytime soon. Ricochet then turned down Strickland’s offer for a rematch. This led to Nana responding stating that he had talked to Tony Khan and he’s in agreement that the fans deserve a rematch. Ricochet responded not being interested until Nana continued stating that the winner of this match would also become the number one contender for the AEW World title. Ricochet responded accepting the match but stated they are not doing this here but instead they’ll do it in a “real California city” and at Revolution.

After Ricochet walked off to the back, Strickland attempted to leave the ring only to be stopped by Nana who stated that he still has some business to attend with Strickland. Nana told Strickland that he wants Swerve to be the man he’s said he is, the most dangerous man there is, but after all the bullets he’s taken for him, he needs Swerve to beat Ricochet and get back him that robe for the sake of his legacy. Nana stated that “or else he’s not sure he can be here for him much longer.” Nana then left the ring as Strickland gave a concerned reaction over Nana’s words.
