Vince McMahon Sex Trafficking Lawsuit Update – Janel Grant Files Motion Requesting Status Conference & Additional Time for Amended Lawsuit

As noted before, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit in January of 2024 against former TKO Executive Chairman Vince McMahon accusing McMahon of committing sex trafficking and sexual abuse towards her during her time in the company. Besides McMahon, WWE and former WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis were also named defendants in the lawsuit. WWE, McMahon, and Laurinaitis all filed motions this past December requesting for the lawsuit to be moved to arbitration while Grant filed a motion this past January about their intent to file an amended lawsuit.

Post Wrestling’s John Pollock reported that Grant’s attorneys filed a new motion on Monday before the United States District of Connecticut based on recent court documents.

This new motion reportedly requested for a status conference to be held in response to McMahon’s recent settlement deal with the SEC. This settlement deal revolved around him being found to have violated the Security Exchange Act over legal issues caused by his undisclosed payments towards an unnamed former WWE talent in 2019 and unnamed former WWE employee in 2022, who is believed to be Grant.

In the filing, Grant’s attorneys stated that this motion was “to inform the Court of the new status quo and request its guidance on how best to move this litigation forward.”

Grant’s attorneys also stated that Grant still intends to file an amended lawsuit but is requesting additional time due to the SEC’s recent findings and deal with McMahon.

“Plaintiff still intends to amend her complaint as of right. Though Plaintiff was prepared to on January 15, the recent SEC Consent Order and findings regarding Defendants’ nondisclosure agreement with Ms. Grant necessitate additional time for her counsel to assess these developments and incorporate these new (and still-developing) facts into her Amended Complaint. Plaintiff believes that submitting one, comprehensive Amended Complaint after a proper investigation of these developments will promote efficiency and best preserve judicial resources. It is clear that the Court’s guidance is needed to reach consensus on a schedule to move this litigation forward. Plaintiff respectfully requests the Court schedule a status conference at its earliest convenience, and enter an order clarifying that no further submissions are due until the Court instructs otherwise.”
