As noted before, WWE currently is planning for a match between Cody Rhodes and John Cena to take place at this April’s WrestleMania 41 event. This match is currently planned to be for the Undisputed WWE Championship and would be Cena’s final WrestleMania match of his wrestling career as part of his current Farewell Tour.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated WWE’s creative team is currently working under the assumption that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will not be wrestling at WrestleMania 41. It was reported that those within WWE creative also knows that things could change between now and this April.
It was reported that WWE officials no longer have any plans for a match between The Rock and Rhodes and instead they have moved forward with plans for Rhodes vs. Cena.
In regards to WWE’s plans for a Cena vs. Rhodes match, it was reported that this match was set up due to WWE officials did not expect The Rock to be avaliable for WrestleMania 41 and had prepared for the scenario where he could not make an appearance. It was also reported that the material filmed between Rhodes and The Rock at the premiere for Moana 2 that had been planned for a potential match between the two now may not ever be shown. This filmed content reportedly would have “squashed things” in their feud similar to The Rock’s promo segment at this past Monday’s WWE RAW premiere show on Netflix.
Besides WWE’s current plans for Rhodes for WrestleMania 41, PWInsisder’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that WWE officials also are currently considering potential plans for a match between Logan Paul and Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41.
Johnson reported that plans for this potential match have been recently pushed internally in creative circles. Johnson also reported that a final decision has yet to be made for Gunther’s official opponent for his match at WrestleMania 41.
