More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for January 1, 2025
The January 1, 2025 episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a small increase in overall viewership but suffered a slight decline in key demographic ratings. That week’s show was notable for being the Dynamite Fight for the Fallen 2025 show and also for being the Dynamite simulcast premiere show on MAX.
AEW drew 588,000 viewers and a 0.16 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night is currently not known.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s mixed results was due to the small gains from their Over 50 key demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given. This reportedly mostly offset the combination of the New Year’s Day holiday, the stiff sports competition from the 2024 College Football Playoffs, and the small decline from their overall key demographic viewership group, which was down 11.2% compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW had a much lower than usual lead-in programming viewership due to the Big Bang Theory not airing an episode that week and instead had the airing of the Dr. Strange film, which only drew a 0.09 key demo rating. Meltzer also reported that the much lower than usual lead-in program resulted in AEW’s first quarter viewership also being much lower than usual.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 26.6% in overall viewership and down 36.5% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that one main reason for the large declines was due to last year’s show competition was much weaker overall and the unknown status of the viewership on MAX for this week’s show.
